Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

Re: Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

He seems to be a real person, anyway, although the contract may have been because of the book about Israeli settlements.

A portion of his book was examined in "Operation Odessa" on Netflix, about Ludwig "Tarzan" Fainberg, who operated out of Miami. On screen interviews, and where Fainberg almost completed the sale of a Russian nuclear sub to a Colombian cartel for the transport of drugs; Tarzan and his associates were the middlemen. The Russians asked him "Do you want the sub with or without missiles?"

Like La Cosa Nostra and the cartels before, the US didn't deem the Russian mafia a threat until it was too late. They were already imbedded.

“ BREAKING: Former Vice President Joe Biden has asked Sen. Amy Klobuchar to undergo vetting to be a potential running mate, according to a source with knowledge of the discussion.”

This doesn’t mean half of what people are making it out to be.

He’s probably told two or three people to prepare for this. Klobuchar’s circle apparently leaks like a sieve more than Harris’.

Yep, throw out a couple feelers, get prepared, and whoever gets the most positive response, then it's go time.

You couldn’t be more wrong. This isn’t a choice about public opinion or feelers. This is the most serious process a presidential nominee goes through prior to the election.

This was a bad leak. You don’t want to look like you’re getting a candidate only to have that person not be the veep. Then you look like someone turned you down or worse, you tarnish someone’s image while looking desperate and incompetent yourself.

Biden’s camp didn’t leak this.

Nah, Veep vetting is leaked all the time, to gauge how it plays. I think Rube's right.

If liberals hoot it down there's no harm done at all -- who cares if you vet somebody and don't pick them? It's your prerogative as the nominee.

My guess is Biden is lukewarm on Amy so this is a good excuse to shut her advocates up ("the liberals hate her, we can't repeat Hillary's mistake"), and Amy gets her name out there since 97% of the public has completely forgotten her existence. Win/win.

Yep. You can't just vet ONE person. You have to have a pool of people. Vet them, because they are viable. Biden's camp might not be the leak, this is very true. But they know leaks will happen, they count on it. Get feedback, then choose.

My original post:

You couldn’t be more wrong. This isn’t a choice about public opinion or feelers. He probably has a person he wants and if he or she hasn’t been offered, Biden is making sure it’s not wasted time only vetting one candidate.

I don’t know if I buy that. They should have done that level of vetting already. They aren’t stupid. The liberals have already made their opinions of all of them very well known.

Re: Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

Just remember, there are many who are not as informed/not easily swayed/etc us many on this board.

Re: Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

It is kind of a weird bubble. I'd say the level of political discourse on the Cafe is about the 97th percentile for America voters. You can do better but you have to be in a university social science graduate department, a top tier newsroom, or an intelligent politics-only forum (which is only about 5% of the liberal ones and 0.01% of the conservative ones).

I trust this particular thread more than the majority of what's out there, unless you dig deep. It does help that many of us know each other personally, and many of us have been on the board long enough to feel we know each other personally, so we know the biases/slants/etc due to the multitude of posts in other threads. We know the personalities. That goes a long ways in this day and age, even without the personal face-to-face.

No Amy's staff leaked or on purpose. Biden probably knew they would though. She isn't getting picked though and even she knows it.

Russia also messed with the Bush and Clinton campaign runs. Known vor z zakone (Russian Mafiya) were at high-priced campaign dinners, got photos with the candidates, etc. This has been going back for decades.

Messed with by the Russian government, encouraged by the President of Russia and practically begged for by the candidate in question? You realize the utter lack of similarities between what you're saying is the same thing?

Haven't we seen similar the last few election cycles? Weren't Pence and Kaine both "wait, they picked him?" reactions?

Could Biden's camp have just floated her name out there to deflect from the rest of their list? It takes heat off Whitmer (who admitted she had talks) and Warren (who has been silent).

Re: Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

Christ I fell asleep reading that...

(I still dont believe he picks her...I think she is the White Affirmative Action picks :D )

What's that NFL rule where you have to interview Token before you hire the thrice-recycled old white guy you were going to all along?

My fear is the DNC is still the NFL and Klobuchar will be the nominee, because the party won't do anything in the tradition of labor rights and egalitarianism for fear of angering their Wall Street bribers.

Prove me wrong, Dems. Sack up.

I get 90% of my news from this (and the similar ones on the Cafe) forum and one other team-centric, password/account required forum. Either from the comments made by most of the posters I trust as honest brokers regardless of point of view, or via the trustworthy links most post (and again I find that regardless of the point of view of most of the posters). I agree with Kep that this is high art compared to 97% of the rest of the "news-ports" on the internet. Every so often a topic gets out of hand and we start blasting on each other but that quickly goes away and we get back to pointing people to interesting news that we learn from or disseminating useful info that helps up. We all spend too much time here, probably, but frankly this is the 1% of the internet that is good for people versus the 99% that is either useless or bad. We might be a little too homogeneous at times, but I think there are a handful of at least former conservative folk in here (on many topics I used to fall into that category) who sort of balance it out, and a few who might still fall more along the center-right spectrum who offer their perspective when we don't shout them down.

Re: Biden v Dump 1: If not now, when? If not us, who?

I like the idea of casting a wide net for the VP search. Makes everybody feel included. Vet people like Klobachur, Inslee, O'Rourke, Demmings, etc alongside Harris, Abrams and Warren. No harm done.
