Best Crowd

Re: Best Crowd

People are jumping on the Stout fans for being bandwagoners but consider the status of the Stout pollsters on this board. They are all students at Stout as far as I have recalled so far. You can't fault them for attending Stout while the team has gotten better. Now if Stout "townies" showed up on the board and started talking smack then you would be able to call them a bandwagoner.

Second, consider this Remy and all others. Would you be a Plattsburgh fan if they were a program for instance say like Lebanon Valley or Concordia WI? Winning breeds fans support, recognition, and noteriety That's why most of the traditional powers of D-III hockey have posters on this board.

There's a reason why Lebanon Valley, Framingham State, Concordia WI etc don't have any active posters on this board. Who here can honestly say they support a team that's .500 or worse EVERY season?

I'll be willing to bet you'll only find a handful if that.

We're all bandwagoners in a sense because I feel comfortable saying if our team NEVER won we wouldnt waste our time following a niche sport like D-III hockey all the time.

NOTE this is different from professional sports as that is a whole different breed. I'm talking about Division III hockey and that is it.

I can honestly say i'm a fan of LvC.My mom graduated from their in 1980,and still supports their many sports that they have there. Therefore,i would consider myself a fan of their team, since i don't root against them, and cheer them on to beat other teams i consider myself a fan of LvC sports.

So just because a team is under .500,they don't have fans? even though their averaging 175 people give or take this season, thats still fans right?

What if their are LvC fans on here(ie.ICEKING),that just don't post on here(often or not) or haven't registerd to be on the forums.Maybe their just looking at what people say on here.

Utica finished under .500 last season.I still support them.

Go Devils!

Go Devils!

You support half of the teams playing Division III.

Haha I was born and raised in Menomonie making me a "townie". After hockey practice from elementary school on, the Stout games were after practice. I've been apart of the DA without even knowing it until the DA was actually formed.

I always wanted to grow up and play hockey for Stout. Of course injuries  held me back from reaching that dream. So I've always been a fan of Stout hockey. Being a "townie" has nothing to do with it. I've seen the losing seasons and I'm always coming back for more hoping that this season will be the one, if not I'll come back next year and so on.

Haven't you heard, I'm you... I never grew up in Menomonie?! I best get my alter ego's in line. :p

Not only you, but also Fritz68, The_Heckler, Devils_Fan. Man it's so hard to manage this multiple personality disorder of mine.

Is it possible to manage disorder, or is it on order, once managed:confused:

So, are the best crowds at the pre-game tailgate or the post-game parties?

Re: Best Crowd

How do we know if we are one of Webb's alter ego's or one of BDR's? What if they are alter egos of each other?

This is a certain identity crisis.

Re: Best Crowd

Maybe BDR is just another one of Webb's identity crisis'... But then I'd be another alter ego of Webb... Does this rabbit hole ever end?

Re: Best Crowd

I followed all of the suckage CSS put up since '95, when most people go to the UMD games here. Then again, I guess that's an exception, because my dad always went to the games as the team doctor.

However, I'll bet there are at least a few supporters of those worst teams that follow their losing teams quite a bit closer than most. It is pretty nice, though, when your team starts winning.

"The Woodshed 2" - I can't comment on this one, since I'm probably missing the background on this.

Not sure if this was answered or not... didnt read the entire thread..................
Behind the Woodshed 2... The Woodshed was a local hangout a couple of blocks away from the SUNY Oswego campus and the students enjoyed going to "the Shed". The Shed closed last fall so that is where the Woodshed 2 comment came from.

Re: Reminiscing

elbojpb equates being a good student section to basically mind ****ing everyone who comes into the rink.
My primary criterion for being a 'good student section' is having an impact on the opposing players' collective psyche and visiting fans - an atmosphere that basically creates the 'fight or flight' intimidation response. Essentially what Fritz stated, but in terms that I don't use.

If all a student section does is cheer their team, it doesn't have that big an impact on the opponents. But once visiting players begin to notice / react to the crowd, the home field advantage is decidedly and exponentially increased.

Unfortunately, that type of behavior, language, etc usually crosses some boundaries between what is deemed appropriate for college vs fan-friendly propriety.

In the non PC days, I always carried a concealed weapon when visiting RIT, Cortland, Oswego and even Geneseo ... just in case. Now, I'm pushing up against the AARP barrier, and feel quite safe anywhere I've been in the last 10 years.

Too bad. I kinda miss the stimulation;}

and the fact that half the students in the crowd are drunk anyway or sneak drinks into the stands.:)

Re: Best Crowd

I've been a fan of NU hockey since I arrived in Northfield in 1980. Certainly since the arrival of McShane, it's been a lot more fun, but still there are people who follow a team year in and year out, following the ups and the downs which is a really good thing to do. Certainly Krietzberg has made it a lot more comfortable to be an NU fan, but I remember going in to the snack bar in Taylor arena to warm up, but it's the game and the competition that matters ultimately, not that it's not a whole lot more fun to follow a winning team.

Re: Reminiscing

Re: Reminiscing

I realize any winning team is going to get more people to show up versus a team that is losing. But any good student section would show up to cheer regardless, instead if it just being the "cool" spot to be, like SNC games. Sorry SNC posters, your student section, save for a couple, is lamer than FDR's legs. Too soon(sorry...just saw that Family Guy episode, and wanted to work it in here)?
Ok, I agree that the SNC student section is lame. But please don't blame the students for all of that. We used to have a good student section, but when the AD starts kicking people out for just shouting "You [stink]" or yelling anything derogatory at a ref, students quickly learn to sit on their hands...or stop attending and wasting $4 on a ticket. I'm all for having some limits on student section activities, but our AD takes it to an extreme. (So don't entirely blame SNC's student section for being "lame." We just prefer not to get escorted out by a rent-a-cop for booing too loudly.)
