Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

So, you are saying that Bentley cannot afford the resources to send an extra email? Maybe they are saving on emails to build the rink on campus? I am still impressed that three OOC teams are visiting the JAR this season.

No. Saying that sending emails telling students to go to every hockey game ensures they ignore all of them. Concentrating your efforts on one game every few weeks is more effective. Then you need to choose which games to focus your efforts on. Northeastern beats Mercyhurst in terms of worthiness.

Also, I forgot that campus will be relatively quiet this weekend, despite the home football game and two home hockey games, as it is the beginning of Fall Break.

Precisely, Schiegs. The athletic department did send out an email for opening day, and they will have some nice giveaways... But as Snively pointed out, it is Columbus day break and campus will be quiet. I know from a source inside the Athletic Department that Bentley is going ALL IN for the Northeastern game. They sold out weeks ago and if most people that bought/reserved tickets show up... the JAR will be pushing fire-code capacity. I'll put it this way, I would be SHOCKED if this game was not Bentley's largest crowd ever BY FAR. Packing the JAR with standing room only will be an awesome sight, and if the team plays well, the place will be rocking! (1,500 crammed into the tiny JAR will sound like 8,000 at a full Agganis) This is a huge game for the program as we look to grow and take the next step as a legitimate D-1 Hockey Program.

I'm rooting for problems, good problems. Fire marshal turning people away, fog and soft ice, clogged toilets, running out of hot dogs, and not enough parking spots. These would put an exclamation point on the viability of an on-campus facility (as if that were still in question.)

Good stuff, schiegs and Top Shelf. The Friday night game at Matthews should be a good one also; great venue. Although almost completely different teams now, Huskies will be looking for revenge after we humbled them 6-3 in January 2013.

As long as there's space for me against Northeastern, I'll be happy.

Hope to see everyone at the JAR this year. Best wishes for a great season!

The in between period mad dash to the bathroom is always tough. It's not always going down that gets you, it's the coming back.

We have a decent sized Northeastern contingent coming to the game as well. To hear y'all have been hyping the game and that it seems to have sold so well should make for a great opposing atmosphere. Never been to Bentley before, looking forward to seeing a new arena and new atmosphere. If you all can, I highly recommend trying to make it to Matthews for that Friday game. Best barn in college hockey, loaded with Boston sports history. Tickets are reasonably priced too. Good luck this weekend :)

Love Matthews, and will need to find my directions to the nearby free parking that someone here kindly provided me for my last visit.

Big crowd at the JAR tonight; maybe many Bentley students stayed on campus because of rain?

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

What's the student atmosphere like at home games?

We have a hard-core student section at the top of far bleacher seats (all the seats at the JAR are bleacher seats) with a large banner that reads "The Falcons' Nest," an idea that perhaps they borrowed from your "Dog House"? Over the past three seasons, this group of students, which understands hockey, has arrived early and stayed for the entire game, whereas other Bentley students would show up just for the second period, and spend most of their time texting and taking selfies. But, tonight's game was entirely different, as the JAR was packed with mostly Bentley students, although there were some Mercyhurst students also (long trip for them!). And, tonight all of the students stayed to the end, as the Falcons finally scored with less than 5 minutes remaining to make it a 2-1 game, before giving up an ENG. Pretty impressive showing by the Bentley students, especially considering this was the Friday night of their four-day Fall Break. Will be interesting to see how many students make the game tomorrow night, but the JAR was rocking tonight. Reminded me of Snively Arena at UNH back in the day.

This is awesome to hear. The guys on the team love playing in those hostile, rowdy environments. They're gonna love that type of atmosphere. Looking forward to experiencing it myself- I greatly enjoy seeing how other student sections work. Will you be making the trip to Matthews?

The Northeastern at Bentley game is sold out already??? I was thinking of catching that next weekend

Away teams are often allotted a chunk of tickets, so if NU doesn't sell all of theirs (likely), they will be returned on Monday. Or you could try calling NU tomorrow to try and secure it through their ticket office.

We will be going to Northeastern for the broadcast. Looking forward to getting in there and seeing a game from the press box.

Fast fact - Matthews was the original home of the Boston Bruins.

My recommendation next Saturday is to get there SUPER early if you're driving. There's not a whole lot around there for a restaurant or bar atmosphere, but we're all pretty friendly if you want to hang out.

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

I could only get to the Friday night game, which I thought was incredibly sloppy. Looks like Soderquist has abandoned the fourth forward on the PP, which had been really successful for parts of the past three seasons. Why was Max French not in the line up on Friday night, and did he also miss Saturday night?

Re: Bentley University Hockey 2015-2016: The Quest for 60-Minute Hockey

Frenchie is injured. Not sure what it is, I've heard it might be his knee. He didn't play Saturday either
