Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Probably Gensler last season. Melissa Wade shoots several Bentley games for us each year.

Agreed; we get more than our share of exposure on USCHO, especial with Dan collaborating on the AHA column. I see Melissa shooting at the JAR fairly often. Bentley students need to support the team on Saturday nights at the JAR a lot more than they have done so far this season. Our team needs to win a few series the rest of the way, injuries or no injuries.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Over the past few months we've gathered 1.200 student signatures for a student led push to get a hockey rink/convocation center on campus. We are trying now to create another petition open to everyone, not just students, to show their support for an on campus rink!

Please sign if you'd like to see a rink on campus! ;)

Done.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Another barn burner at the JAR tonight, as Kubiak tied game in the second on a shorty.

Edit: Excellent third period by the eastern Falcons, despite being outshot by the western Falcons; Bentley got their GWG from Gladiuk with 5 sec remaining on only their second PP. Opponents are getting smart, and not taking as many penalties as earlier in season. Gladiuk now alone in lead with 12 goals, and Bentley clinging to team PP lead in Div 1. Excellent, clean, two-way hockey game on another rowdy Friday night at the JAR. Bentley students in full force with creative chants and loud horn. Now, about these follow up Saturday night games.

Ok, I will reply to my own post, as apparently no one else seems inclined to comment on a great AHA game last night.

The big test is tonight to see if Bentley can sweep and build some momentum moving forward. Grieve and Maher still on the shelf, but all frosh second line held their own last night.

The boys came out flying and absolutely dominated the first two periods. The first goal was tough, Argue never saw it though traffic. Other than that he played excellent. I think he's emerging as the top netminder in his short stint. As for the rest of the team, we dominated at every level. The third period was ugly but they hung on. Big weekend for the Falcons and a huge 4 points!

Thanks for the report, TTS. Four-points are not easy, although there were a bunch of them in the AHA this weekend. Beginning to see some separation in the AHA standings, so good to be part of the top half. Another big opportunity next weekend. Go Falcons!

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

I think getting students to come to a hockey game two weekend nights in a row, at the JAR, is a tall order. Personally, given a fixed quantity, I would rather see them all show up one night than have it only half full two nights. At least that creates one night of good atmosphere.

Pretty pathetic attendance by Bentley fans both nights, although the few Bentley students who attended on Friday night when I attended were at least loud. Air Force fans outnumbered Bentley fans on Friday night, and my guess is that was also the case on Saturday night. Apparently there was a big dance on campus on Friday night; not sure about Saturday. Anyone who thinks that the Bentley admin is not tracking attendance at the JAR in the campus rink debate is delusional. I think that if a new campus athletic facility does get built, its primary purpose will not be for hockey, but for other campus wide events. It is easy for 1200 students to sign a petition for an on-campus rink, but a lot bigger commitment to show up for games at the JAR, 2.5 miles from the lower end of campus.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Will be my last post until the end of January, so best wishes to the Falcons over the next six weeks. Good win on Sunday afternoon for a 3-point weekend. Bentley now tied with Holy Cross for 2nd in AHA, although the Crusaders do have two games in hand, as does Mercyhurst, tied for fourth. Gladiuk now tied for first in goals and points, and Bentley back up to first in PPGs and second in PPG% in Div 1.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

I'll bet the team is looking forward to some rest for the holidays. They've had a busy schedule the past several weeks. Their first two series back are tough ones, on the road at Robert Morris and Canisius. Two long trips against good squads. This will be perhaps the toughest stretch of the season.

Any recruiting news????

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Thanks for posts, schiegs and TTS. Turns out that I will have access to the internet for a few more days.

Maybe Cody Depourcq will be the next Nathan Gerbe?

Any word on whether Grieves will be back for the RMU trip? Speaking of RMU, they just got thumped pretty badly by Colgate, so they will be looking to bounce back. Hoping that they find themselves in the penalty box often to give our power play some opportunities.

Glad to have you here with us a little longer Snively! Depourcq is the captain of his junior squad and from my brief research seems to have some potential. Let's hope he's our Gerbe!

As far as Griever, last we spoke to him was on the 14th at AIC, and he said that it's lingering but he wants to be back for the start of the second half of the year. We're dangerous without him, and with him we're an offensive juggernaut. Throw Grieve into a top six that already has Switz, French and Glads and we can play with just about anyone. It's been easy to forget about the loss of Grieve with the seasons that French and Glads are having, but lets not forget that he's our top returning scorer from last year!

Good news on Grieve, TTS.

Huge opportunity for the Falcons to make a statement on the road in Pittsburgh when they return to action. I would be perfectly fine with the Falcons knocking our only AHA team with a potential at-large NCAA bid out of contention. :)

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

The next few weeks will tell us what this team is made of, with three long road trips in four weeks, against the top half of the league. The standings on Monday, Feb 1 will have little ambiguity.

This break has been long enough. I'm ready for some nail biters.

Nice showing by the Falcons with TWO Hobey Baker nominees!
