Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Just perusing the Harvard ticket site, it appears only a few tickets are left.

At the risk of sounding like a self-serving homer, I would think it is in Harvard's best interest to keep this series going. Looking through their attendance numbers, we have drawn very well at this game. Last year's attendance was a respectable 3rd behind BU and BC for N/C home contests at Bright. Year before that, the Bentley game was 1st amongst N/C home games. I know Harvard is not in need of money, but if a particular contest continues to draw well, wouldn't you keep it going? I know there are a lot of sexier names to have on your schedule, but ticket sales count for something, no?

Rethinking this post....

Rethinking this post....

Yeah tonight's game wasn't much to write home about. In fact I think this was the first game you guys scored on us? Not sure if that's true but if so, well, doesn't say much for the series.

To answer your question, Harvard's thought process in scheduling out of conference has more to do with natural rivalries with BC, BU and Northeastern. Outside of the Beanpot, we still prefer to play those guys because we bang out Bright and travel costs are practically nil. We've also added the Rivalry on Ice game at MSG in New York vs. Yale and again, it's about money and exposure. While you guys bring a very good crowd, I'm not sure if it will be enough to keep the series going forward.

Actually, I thought that the game was a lot more entertaining than the score might indicate tonight, and I thought that Bentley dominated most of the second period. Michalek is a fine goalie, and Bentley did not capitalize much on its power play for the first time this season. Our goalie Doc had a few tough minutes in the first period, but otherwise I think played reasonably well after his two minute stint on the bench, although he did benefit from his post and crossbar on a couple of shots. Also, Bentley was missing one of its top three scoring forwards in Alex Grieve. So, hoping that the series continues for at least another year.

The most disappointing aspect is that for three straight years, we brought in great fan support in front of an opponent with stellar brand recognition. Being outscored 13-1 in those three opportunities stings. Bad. How many of those fans were first timers with Bentley hockey?

I don't mean to sound like I'm coming down on anyone. I'm just bitter.

Yeah, but Bentley owns Harvard in the Fed Cup Challenge. :-)

That was tough to swallow. It's tough to see the team finally get the showing they're worthy of, and go out there and get pummeled. I think the score could be misleading, we played pretty well in the second and didn't capitaize on a few opportunities. But like with the home opener, they had a huge crowd and then were down 4-0 in the blink of an eye. It really neutralized the crowd. Like the Sacred Heart game, the crowd stayed energetic but there's only so much you can do down 5-0. I want to see a capacity crowd when we're winning or in a tight game!

Don't be bitter I'm am sure your "coach" was thrilled with "his" first goal vs Harvard, considering he thought last year's shutout loss was Bentley's "best offensive effort of the season" ! It takes time to build a D1 program say maybe two decades or retirement ?

Whoa didn't know that the "goal" was a Bentley 5-3, highlights on Harvard site

No question that Harvard is a better team than Bentley, year in and year out, and especially this year. And, Bentley has lots of company in the AHA with lousy OOC records. But, losing decisively to Sacred Heart, and now Holy Cross, is not a good sign for this team. The Falcons really need 3 or 4 points against Army at the JAR this weekend. Anything less will be a large step backwards, but apparently the injury bug has caught up with them.

A 3-point weekend against Mercyhurst, and a sweep of RPI had me believing. Aberration? Or are these bad losses the outlier? Will the real Bentley Falcons please stand up.

Injuries to several key players is the problem at the moment, I think, similar to three years ago when the injury bug hit them in the second half. The subs will need to step up, as they are getting some valuable playing time opportunities. Will be at the JAR tonight, where Falcon fans will be vastly outnumbered by Army fans (will sound like away games this weekend).

Bentley up 2-0 after first, with Switzer and Gladiuk getting the goals, Gladiuk's a PPG, keeping Bentley #1 in the nation on that stat. Jayson Argue looked good, stopping all 14 shots, in first period of his Div 1 debut. Dan voted against Bentley tonight, whereas Chris went for a Bentley sweep; go Chris and Falcons!

Edit: great game! Army came back to tie, but then Gladiuk got his second goal and Bentley held on for 3-2 win. Gladiuk now tied for both goals and points lead in Div 1; Bentley still carries a commanding lead in PPGs %. Bentley without both Grieve (now missed four games) and French tonight; D-man Maher played RW on third line. Nice for Argue to win in his debut.

Another close game this afternoon, which I missed, but sounds like a good one from the box score, despite the 2-1 loss. Dan went 0-2 with Bentley in his AHA picks this weekend.

Will be at the Air Force game on Friday night, and although the western Falcons always have a good fan turn out at the JAR, Bentley students will be back from Thanksgiving break, so that should help to get our eastern Falcons back on track. Get healthy, Bentley!

Do the Bentley "fans" ever tire of year after year of excuses? All teams have key injuries every season. The excuse's here changes every year as do players on the roster. Only things that remain the same every year is the coach and sub-par game results. Get it yet?

Bummer, mook. Hope that we get to meet at some point. Love the OOC thread!

These games at the JAR have been very entertaining this season, even if results in favor of Bentley have not always been there.

You can blame the coach but goalies win championships! They had plenty of offense last year! In the NHL they talk about the hot goalies winning the stanley cup. I believe the same is true about the frozen four. Be realistic the talent isn't as good this year! It is a simple fact you are missing key people and the goalies situation isn't the best. To get the talent you have to have the facilities! Fixing the roof of the JAR isn't going to attract top tier talent! It looks better but it won't bring them to the school.

Agreed. The increase in scholarships was a big step to improved recruiting. And the academic profile of the school helps as well. But you can only slap so much lipstick on a pig. All that effort is wasted if we stay at the JAR.

When was the last time we saw a Bentley uniform on the home page of USCHO?
