Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Because Charter/Midco gave them a boatload of money. IIRC, the first deal was something like $90,000 for three years for the exclusivity, and was around $15,000 and up each successive year...

That is a nice deal and will give the BSU program some good exposure.

Note that I was referring to the old deal/money. I've not heard what the finantials for the proposed Lakeland deal would be.

Too bad it is looking more and more like the games will end up on Lakeland Plus if they seal up the rights.

Maybe they can find a way to show them "tape delayed" on the main Lakeland station?

I'm just excited that it has Matt Read still on it.

Except, you know, for those 120 minutes the Beavs play the Chargers this year.

GFM

Looks like we are going to have a lot more depth than last year, can't wait!

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

What happened to Jase Weslowsky? I had read before on the Beaver Pond he wasn't going to be on the team...

Poor grades. It is really too bad to lose such a talented tender to something like that.

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Glad that BSU still makes you be a student-athlete.

GFM

I think that is one of the things that the BSU coaching staff and a lot of the fans take pride in (I know I do). If you are going to wear the Green and White, you are going to be a student also. Looking back at all the Academic All Conference Teams when they were in the CHA, if you were a Beaver and not on it, you were most likely a freshman who wasn't eligible. There were a few cases over the years where someone wasn't on it, but they were few and far between.

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Jase didn't flunk out of BSU. With Bakala and Dugas playing well last year, he knew he wouldn't play much this year.

Well either way, it is true that Bakala played very well last season and was more than likely going to be given the #1 spot this season.

First off, the attendance numbers are available to everyone, right here on this website. Pleading ignorance isn't a good choice. Second, you absolutly did refuse to listen. Like I said, I've lived here for over a decade. You visited "several times" over a decade ago. Wouldn't it have been easier to just take my word for it? And finaly, population is absolutly releant. CC was mentioned as the smallest school with the 4th largest rink. However, they are in a metro area of over 600,000. You think that BSU might build a bigger rink if they were in Colorado Springs? Or even Duluth? There simply isn't enough population to support rinks the size those two schools have.

And finally, pointing out that you have been to the John Glas, you should have been able to figure out that attendance couldn't have been more than ~ 2200 over the last few years (just on size of facility). Not only that, you should have known that Bemidji isn't Duluth (let alone Colorado Springs). Now, hockey is quite popular at the moment, but asking 10% of the "area" population (the 80,000 within 80 miles) to attend hockey/concerts/etc. each week is quite a stretch...

1)NEVER EVER pleaded ignorance. That would be your twist.
Speaking of ignorance, spelling not your strong point!?

2) Where are you originally from? you never mentioned living in the area. So... where are you going with the "I've lived here for over a decade!" bit!?

3) As for population, it was first mentioned in terms of "immediate" population aka the actual town of Bemidji (thank you GFM for the weak argument.) However, others argued that surrounding, metro populations contribute significantly to the support of a community and/or its ventures. So, yeah, population in the sense of GFM had no weight.

4) As far as the rink goes, we were bantam/high school kids going for camp AND even then there were lots of people there watching the games - both players and spectators.

Someone, I think GFM, gave me some interesting negative rep - he mentioned that you guys were the "USCHO ELITE." By all means ladies, bring that one to any other thread. ;)

Regards,
Excellence

P.S.
Look forward to seeing if Bemidji will be able to hack the WCHA. It's a grind to say the least. Best of Luck!

I always noticed and appreciated that. This has become a point of emphasis at UAH under Cole, too, but the great thing is that it really comes from the players. Athlete GPAs are typically higher than your average UAH student, and hockey is typically one of the highest team GPAs in athletics. I have an appreciation for that---just as much as I'm happy to see the Beavers doing it the right way.

No, you were whining about elitism and cliquishness up-thread. If you're obsessed with what I have to say about you, I'm quite worried for your self-esteem.

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Well, Matt Climie and the Texas Stars dropped the Calder Cup finals 4 games to 2 to the Hershey Bears. Matt played in Game 5, stopping 41 of 43 shots in a 2-1 OT loss. Game 6 saw Brent Krahn back in the net, Stars lost 4-0 and lost the series.

I believe Climie is a free agent this year and not sure what the Dallas system has in store for him. He did well during the year, got called up to Dallas for a game and then sent back down. He didn't get back on the ice until the playoffs, and that was only after Krahn went down with a concussion. He performed well, leading Texas to a comeback series victory over Chicago, a seven game series victory over Hamilton and then two wins over Hershey, who had the highest scoring offense in the AHL.
