Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Greetings Beaver nation!

I'm a long time CC fan and I just have to say how excited I am to have BSM in the WCHA. I always enjoy watching BSM come to the World Arena and I like any team that is capable of beating DU. I look forward to seeing your new rink in the near future; when the Tigers eventually make it up there to play you guys.

Have a great summer! Only five more monthes 'til hockey!

And I cannot wait until CM vistis BSU...........

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Alright, I had a little time here, and this is what I was able to come up with from Wiki (arena size from USCHO....Metro Population from Wiki.....Size of the arena compared to Metro size)

Bemidji State: ~4700....43169....10.9%
Michigan Tech: 4200....38000....11.05%
North Dakota: 11634....97190....12.0%

Can I also point out that these three are clearly the exception to the rule. UND draws from Fargo and the rest of the state, plus several areas in NW Minnesota too.

Continuing with my, "what if" scenerio, look at MTU and their struggles. They averaged only 2164 (and had as few as 1444 for a game vs. SCSU) last year in their 4200 "seat" rink (I believe it actually has ~ 3700 seats, plus has room for an additonal 500 standing room) based mostly on performance.

For fun, I just plugged in the 2399 for the John Glas Fieldhouse, and that drops Bemidji down to 5.56%, which is still third on the list.

On the BSU Recruit front:

The USHL draft started today and in the first round, Sam Rendle went to the Indiana Ice at #10 and Zack Franco went to Ceder Rapids at #12.

Wonder if BSU-Alum and now Cedar Rapids Assistant Coach Travis Winter had any say in the Zach Franko first draft pick?! Should be great development for him.

Also- BSU Recruit Brad Robbins picked in 4th round by Waterloo.

Matt Climie has gone 3-3 in the AHL Western Conference Finals against Hamilton. Last night (Monday) he stopped 51 of 53 shots in a 3-2 OT win. Game 7 is Wednesday night in Hamilton.

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Looks like former Beaver Andrew Martens has signed with the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League:

Also, I have heard that Lakeland Public TV has bought the rights to telecast Beaver Hockey Games! This will increase the market for BSU hockey as Lakeland Public TV not only covers an area from Canada to Little Falls, but also shows up on DirectTV and DishNetwork as part of the Twin Cities market (I get it in the Alexandria area). If they can line up all the sponsorships needed, it will be great for exposure of the Green and White!

That's outstanding news! :)

Good deal. Nice exposure for BSU hockey. It will help attendance, too. I would assume then, that both cable providers will carry the games via Lakeland? I never understood why BSU would want an "exclusive" cable company carrier (I understand the cable co's logic - but not BSU's - unless that's all they could get).

Because Charter/Midco gave them a boatload of money. IIRC, the first deal was something like $90,000 for three years for the exclusivity, and was around $15,000 and up each successive year...

That is sweet. Millsy - see if you can make a couple calls and get the powers that be at Lakeland to show the games in HD. ;)

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

I am just happy we will be able to get the games in our area, just in case we can't make it up there for a game or two! HD would be nice, but analog will work. I know they are digital with their over the air feed.

Up for lunch sometime next week?

Re: Bemidji State offseason, WCHA, BREC here we come!

Here is an update on the possible Lakeland TV coverage of BSU Home Hockey Games from today's Bemidji Pioneer:

http://www.bemidjipioneer.com/event/article/id/100019339/

I hope they can find a way to get it on the main channel and not one of the alternates. The exposure to DirectTV and DishNetwork customers in the Twin Cities market would be huge. I can't get the over the air channels in the Alexandria area, but my DirectTV package has it. The BSU alumni in this area would love to be able to see the home games if they can't get up to Bemidji for them.
