Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

With a forward as talented as Donato, that makes a difference for sure.

bu will be lucky now to keep it within single digits :(

looks like another loss to the igles early on the 12th :( :(

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

Looks like Harvard (vs BU) and BC (vs NU) won the coin tosses as home teams (with last line changes) for the first round.

Ha .... that will make no difference when NU loads up on the power play. BC will lose if they can't stay out of the box.

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

nu is playing lackluster offense right now... barring a quick turnaround, i do not see them pulling this off.
i want to be optimistic.. but eagles & terriers are getting offense going. harvard & nu need to get it together to have a chance.
having said that, go you nu huskies... been too long!

I thought the rotation of who plays who and home/away is set on a tablet resting on Cardinal O'Connell's grave.

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

Watching NESN's Beanpot preview show. Getting a little excited for Monday. But then again, this preview show is before BU's game against UMass, so that's where the focus needs to be.

But...reason for this post. If Northeastern wins this year, I believe it will be only the second time in the tournament's history where each Beanpot school has won in consecutive years:

2015 BU
2016 BC
2017 Harvard
2018 maybe possibly Northeastern???

Last time it happened:

1980 NU
1981 BU
1982 Harvard
1983 BC

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

KRACH ratings of teams going into the Beanpot:

17 - NU
18 - BU
22 - BC
24 - HU

{subject to some minor shifting due to late scores}

Very close grouping.

bu has to be the hottest team coming into the beanpot. playing some good hockey right now. advantage terriers until someone can cool them off.

I will be surprised if bu doesn't win this thing.

I will be surprised if they do. I know they’re on a bit of a streak, but, with the exception of last Friday’s 8-0 blowout of ASU, they haven’t been world beaters. Last night they barely got by UMass. They’re a bit banged up, one of their top 6 forwards is recovering from the flu and even if they manage to get by Harvard, Greenway heads to South Korea on Tuesday and misses the final. Of course I’m known to be a Negative Nancy when it comes to this tournament.

NU is tougher than BU. NU vs BC in final. I like NU this year. Go Huskies.

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

How is that going to happen when they play each other this Monday?

I like NU over BC. I think NU finally has a great team due to senior and junior roster. Next year they will begin to fall. So this is it for NU. This year or not. I think this is their year.

To the hockey historians on these boards, has NU ever been the highest-rated PWR team heading into this tournament? Certainly not recently, and given the history of the Beanpot, I would say this must be a first.
