Beanpot LXV - Does Anything Else Even Matter?

Re: Beanpot LXV - Does Anything Else Even Matter?

No current Northeastern or Harvard player was alive the last time their school won the Beanpot. A stat that won't make the Jumbotron.

Looked this up last night. Last time a player was on NU that was alive when they won the Beanpot was the 2012-13 season

Re: Beanpot LXV - Does Anything Else Even Matter?

If you're not in Boston and want to see the games but don't have NESN on your home system, there are watch parties in in various parts of the country hosted by local alumni clubs. Info should be posted on the web pages of the four Beanpot schools.

Was there some blizzard that happened back in the late 1970s during the Beanpot? 1978 or something? Really looking forward to the media digging a bit on this story and enlightening us on this for the first time so we'll really know what happened.

If I hear "by the time we came out the snow was gone and so were the 70s" again I may throw up.

:)
or on the transit system

I actually took the T to the Garden with the Harvard scrubs last year. Apparently they aren't worth bus space. So, including them, we only need to find like six others.

I've been on the orange line surrounded by the Harvard band a couple times. It's pretty funny to see a guy with a bass drum strapped to his chest navigating rush hour crowds.

Not including NU players that transferred there after they were cut from BU, where they won a Beanpot.

you obviously wouldn't know :p, but the red line doesn't stop at north station :D

harvarders require a change at downtown crossing or park st to get to north station

You don't need the media for this one. I was there. Yeah, it started snowing on that Monday but no one really knew what was in store the rest of the day and night. We trekked down to the Old Garden on the Red Line for the 5pm game against the Huskies. Game went into OT and Gene Purdy won it for Harvard 4-3 but by that time we were getting reports that it was coming down fierce outside. We packed and left as soon as the post game wrap up was complete (we did the radio broadcast)only to find the Red Line had stopped running and we literally had to snow shoe our way back to Cambridge. Unforgettable. I think we got some help from a truck driver who was out sanding that night. According to reports in the Globe, during the BU-BC game, they announced that the entire subway system had shut down and that they were making the Garden available for people who wanted to camp out for the night.

The championship game against BU was postponed until the last week of the season (I think it was something like February 27th or 28th) and in that game, six players got kicked out for fighting. I don't remember what precipitated the fight but it was a doozy.

In the aftermath of the storm, Harvard shut down for a week for the only time in its history. We ran up and down Mass Ave, built snowmen and did other crazy stuff that only college students do with too much time on their hands. We had just started our second semester so mid terms were off in the future. I'll never forget how the dining crews went out of their way to make sure we were fed and okay all through that week even though they couldn't go home to their own families. We loved them for it.

Pffttt...like we'd ever transfer to the Orange Line. If we were going to be so pedestrian, we'd transfer to the Green Line.

On a serious note, I have no faith in us taking advantage of our triennial chance to lose in the Beanpot Finals. Too many Beanpots in recent history of neither the fans nor the team showing up.

I will be there!
