Re: Beanpot LXV - Does Anything Else Even Matter?
Harvard has an elite top six and some excellent defenders, but doesn't have much scoring depth and has gotten lackluster goaltending at times (though Madsen has been terrific in recent games, to be fair). They are capable of dominating games and overwhelming opponents - they account for 55.5% of even strength shots in their games, which is one of the best figures in the country - but have been inconsistent (a hallmark of the Donato era, according to some of their posters here).
In fact, you can look at their games against two of the other Boston schools as evidence of this: They pretty thoroughly beat BC, 5-2, before losing to BU 5-3 in a game BU controlled for the most part. I saw them in person for the first time this year last weekend and was impressed (as always) with their speed, cycling ability, and propensity to hold Brown and Yale to taking mostly perimeter and low danger shots.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the Beanpot. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to Northeastern.
Haven't watched Harvard much this year, they're clearly a very good team, but how in the hell did you lose to RPI 4-0? It'd be cool with that team showing up on Monday.
