Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

umass, merrimack and bu with almost identical records...quite a terrible trio

everyone else in the league has a winning record

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

also noticed with 11 teams this year, umass has the last weekend of regular season off

I was just noticing how it's basically a mortal lock that BC is going to play a very good team in the Hockey East quarterfinals --- probably Notre Dame (odds are ND/BU will be the 8-9 series).

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

well the one game format instead of best of three probably means a better chance of the lower seeded team winning but you're right if everything goes to form.

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

ecac does best of three in opening round and i know the ccha did as well. only realized recently that hockey east decided on one game format for opening round.

I don't mind the one-game format for the "octofinal" / "opening round" / whatever you want to call it.

While I don't consider a first round bye to be much of a reward for being a top regular season team for reasons that have been discussed here previously, I do think avoiding the vagaries of a one-game playoff in the first round is a good reward. Having to deal with single elimination is a decent "punishment" for not getting enough points during the regular season.

That said, I don't see Merrimack, BU or UMass pulling off even a one-game upset against any of the teams they'd be tasked with playing. Maybe BU only because they have two very good goalies.

Seeing that Lowell will be better than BC in the end, don't count on that one
Do you stand by that prediction Hoky?
Is this weekend the end, the HE playoffs the end, or the NCAA tournament the end?

they are the only team that can knock them off. flip of a coin
lowell is very good
only hockey east teams who will do well in tourney

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

i'd say that's fairly accurate. i have a lot of respect for lowell, a lot of key returning players from last year.

lowell doesn't scare me offensively but quality team defense and goaltending...could give bc fits.

True but if BC can gain the upper hand by getting the lead first, UML will have to open up to catch up. They cannot run and gun with BC. Looking forward to Saturday's game at the Tsongas. I like going to that rink, Put the pedal to the metal boys.

Wow I go away for a weekend and madness ensues.

Things I learned:
hoky needs to get back on the meds
Joe needs to get out of his mom's basement and go to actual games
Jerry added another trophy

UMass I can see pulling an upset on any team if they get some puck luck. They always seem to play BC tough.

Do I get a free beer at the Tsongas for all those frequent Eagle Miles Sterlippo1 ? Usually I stay local but this year I drove to Orono, Burlington and Amherst all in one season, rinks I've never been to before ) LOL

Re: BC Hockey '13-'14: The Quest To Make Holy Cross Transitive Property National Cham

I'm looking forward to Lowell too. Not only because of the beer and sightlines at Tsongas but also because it should be great hockey. There's still a lot at stake. BC can basically sew up the #1 seed with a sweep, I think. And Lowell still needs to lock down their position and has a tough fight to preserve a 2-seed in the NCAAs.

I agree that these are the two best teams in the league (#HotSportsTakes) and really enjoy watching Lowell play. They are a defensive team, but not in the boring way of the Blaise years.

yes, it would be my pleasure! :) I am meeting FiveHole12 there, we'll see you at Tsongas

I know Patronick is going to lose his mind and accidentally poke a whole in his blow-up girlfriend rushing to the keyboard to respond to this... but I've seen several UML games this season and they are every bit as boring as any team I've seen in Hockey East in the past 15 years. They are good at what they do, but it's incredibly boring.
