That is promising, since I still like the first MiB movie as a figment of my youth, and Smith is a "turn off your brain" laugh riot in that. Friend and I did Agent J and Agent K as Halloween costumes the year it came out.

Yep, pretty much a 6/6.5-ish. Lame villain. Margot Robbie and Will Smith carried it. Would be willing to see more of Leto's take on the Joker. I could envision a Joker/Harley movie in the future (which I think the final scene sets up), but I don't think I would pay to see a Suicide Squad sequel in the theater.

Well the problem the comics always had was they often didnt have villains (that was what the Justice League was for) they were running covert ops. The popularity always came from the interplay between the characters. I am not sure a sequel should ever be planned have them show up other places. (Boomer in The Flash, Deadshot, Harley and Joker in Batman)

That makes sense. I just got home from the movie, and I was amazed at how little time the main villain(s) had on screen. It one part it makes sense since you're looking at building a core group - a large-ish group - of characters. Also, despite the anti-heroes at the core, we really were looking at multiple sets of villains, creating that dystopic world that was mirrored in the dark settings.
That makes sense. I just got home from the movie, and I was amazed at how little time the main villain(s) had on screen. JLo plays a widow w/daughter who escapes her abusive bf and moves in with her FIL (Robert Redford, and his right-hand man Morgan Freeman) who owns a ranch, who has never forgiven her for her husband's (his son's) death.
Gets a bit Lifetime-y, ESPECIALLY JLo's role, but never goes full throttle in that aspect. Lots of cliches. Not a terrible watch, but you can skip it. Redford/Freeman subplot saves the movie, IMO.

Saw Suicide Squad this morning. Overall C/C+.
I liked the intros to start the film. It was a different take on origins that we haven't seen before and established the characters well (I just know basics from the DC world, so I'm not gonna nitpick the finer points here. It worked for me.). This also establishes Amanda Waller as a BAMF and the movie plays that card very well for the remainder. I give her top props. Viola Davis nailed this role.
Plot, as is becoming an issue in comic book movies, had several issues. I didn't understand the threat and we never really explore the "death machine" that is getting built. There wasn't enough of a threat to make me care if the characters succeeded or not.
Overall I'm beginning to think that DC is trying too hard to catch up to Marvel and isn't letting the world building happen organically. I dunno how to explain this w/o spoilers so I'll just let it be for now and come back if anyone wants to discuss it further.

It is no more forced in this movie than it was in Iron Man 2(which really ruined that film for me) which was, I believe their third movie. (IM, Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2) By the time Justice League comes out next November DC will have only made 1 less movie than Marvel did in their build up to Avengers because Wonder Woman comes out first. I feel that argument works better for BvS than it does for Suicide Squad. (honestly I think the films should have been reversed but no way that was happening)
If you mean they are making the movies too quickly I would agree, although there is a year until the next film so at least there is that. The problem these days is every studio is putting out huge blockbuster tentpoles each month. Look at the release schedule for 2017 it is insane! Whether it is comic films, Harry Potter, Fast and the Furious, Pixar, Monster Films...etc. there seems to be a big name film every 2 weeks or so. Same holds true for 2018 and beyond. There is no slowing down anymore you cant even afford to delay or you risk being forced into a head to head with another huge genre film and costing yourself lots of cash...

What if the song inspired the movie?
Morrissey isn't very likable to be sure (I've seen him walk off stage no less than 3 times way too early into a show of that stature) but I'll never stop being a fan of The Smiths nor the first decade of his solo work.

Jason Bourne. Ugh - don't see it in the theater unless you've never seen I, S or U and don't plan to before this one. As a huge fan of the first 3 there's enough there to make me not hate it, but it's almost like a parent denying their baby is ugly. Tommy Lee was wasted, Alicia Vikander was great, Damon did his best with a very sub-par and repetitive plot, and the fight scene cinematographer can gfh. I originally said 6/10 at GPL but 5.5 is probably more apt.

I saw Billy Bragg stop his set at the Birchmere to talk about Morrissey for about 15 minutes. It was very funny (they have a notorious feud that nobody can figure out whether it's real or not) and it did absolutely nothing to resolve my basic question: is Morrissey so in on his joke that the joke is actually on us?

Half in the Bag movie reivews: I love watching these guys do their reviews. They review movies with the eye of trained critics, but talk to their audience without the horrible attitude most reviewers take. It's a 31:00 review, and the language is NSFW, so be warned. This time it's Suicide Squad (which they made a few factual errors, but still can't argue with the general gist of it all).
Half in the Bag movie reivews: I love watching these guys do their reviews. They review movies with the eye of trained critics, but talk to their audience without the horrible attitude most reviewers take. It's a 31:00 review, and the language is NSFW, so be warned. Well I wouldnt watch anyways (youtube critics dont matter to me any more than actual critics do) but judging by geniuses commenting on the video (both in agreement and disagreement) it would be a waste of time anyways I wont lie it kinda reminds me of reading people on Facebook arguing about Drumpf

These are the Red Letter Media guys who spent some two hours per Star Wars Prequel movie explaining why they were <strike>bad</strike> horrible movies. You might have even been the one to turn me on to them - it was someone on this site who did.

I know who they are, and I like the RLM guys sometimes like the old Mr. Plimpton bit (it was not me that posted them originally it was I think Paragon of Virtue) but that doesnt mean I agree with their critiques or take them to heart. The Prequels and Star Trek critiques were good because they were funny but the more I watched the more I kinda found myself annoyed that they took their opinions a bit too seriously. I dunno after a while it just got old I guess...
I am sure it is quite entertaining though...I am just not in the mood to see them overly critique a movie I enjoyed. As with any of these films the more you think about them and dissect them the more ridiculous they become. (HISHE likes to poke fun at that) Maybe in a few months I will watch it and see how much I agree with. Right now I am just happy the movie entertained me I dont care about the details
