Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread
I dont think the Joker is in the movie for shock value (though his character by nature tends to go that way) he is part of what makes Harley and helps tell her story. Also, with another Batman film on the horizon (2018 or 19 I forget) this is the introduction so they can use him later.
Going back to the stupidity of fanboys for a second...I used to get lot of joy out of being sort of a fringe fanboy and following every detail of a lot of these movies. I have basically sworn off it now. Fanboy message boards and media are flipping toxic and are very reminiscent of sports and everything I hate about current sports fandom. It used to be a lot of fun discussing characters and production with like minded geeks but it is so amplified now it is ridiculous. Take every cliche about the internet, multiply it by 10 and there it is. It is just non-stop trolling, whining, fighting and attacking. The flame wars on the fanboy sites destroy any that ever were here even in the good ole days...only difference is there is no real fun to it is just vitriol and hatred over the most mundane things. It is not about the entertainment anymore, it is about making sure everyone who likes something else is angry. I found myself worrying more about stupid stuff of no consequence than what really matters, whether I am entertained or not.
Fanboys attacking critics reminds me of the sports fans who go after reporters...it is pathetic and tone deaf. So a critic hated the movie, so what? The question is did YOU like the movie? Unfortunately that matters only a little bit, because now the fanboys feel the need to justify their fandom and apparently rottentomatoes is the only way to do it. It just ruins everything...and whats worse is they treat each other this way as well. Many of them seek to actually ruin other people's enjoyment and it is surprisingly effective. (my gf saw the same thing when she read reviews of the New Harry Potter manuscript...which she didnt really like but didnt feel was the crime against humanity the fanboys did)
So yeah I decided to walk away. I will check in from time to time but just like the hockey side of this board it will only be when something big happens. No entertainment, whether it is sports, movies, books or whatever is worth the toxicity the can surround it. Those types of fans ****ed near killed sports for me and I am going to head it off at the pass before it ruins movies for me as well. I usually embargo myself from them before I see a movie I care about anyways so they cant taint my opinion.
(sorry for the rant, I know none of you care just backing up how bad the geeks have gotten)
Anyways I am seeing Suicide Squad at 7 so I am hoping I like it. It doesnt need to be a 10, it just needs to keep me entertained for 2 hours. If it does awesome, if it doesnt the world will keep on a spinning
