Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I know who they are, and I like the RLM guys sometimes like the old Mr. Plimpton bit (it was not me that posted them originally it was I think Paragon of Virtue) but that doesnt mean I agree with their critiques or take them to heart. The Prequels and Star Trek critiques were good because they were funny but the more I watched the more I kinda found myself annoyed that they took their opinions a bit too seriously. I dunno after a while it just got old I guess...

I am sure it is quite entertaining though...I am just not in the mood to see them overly critique a movie I enjoyed. As with any of these films the more you think about them and dissect them the more ridiculous they become. (HISHE likes to poke fun at that) Maybe in a few months I will watch it and see how much I agree with. Right now I am just happy the movie entertained me I dont care about the details :D

(this is only my opinion and I do not pretend to speak for others)
I'm like you in that way. I don't necessarily want a movie broken down to expose plot holes/whatever. Just let me enjoy the show. The cliched "how much damage costs does the city/nation tolerate before they come down on these superhero battles?" argument comes to mind. Shuddup. Good beat evil. Done deal. ;)

Half in the Bag movie reivews: I love watching these guys do their reviews. They review movies with the eye of trained critics, but talk to their audience without the horrible attitude most reviewers take. It's a 31:00 review, and the language is NSFW, so be warned. This time it's Suicide Squad (which they made a few factual errors, but still can't argue with the general gist of it all).

One of my favorite podcasts is "How did this get made?"

It is hosted by Paul Scheer and always has Jason Mantzoukas, with others sprinkled in. They watch awful movies then review them. One of the best lines is from there episode about "Crossroads."

"A pregnant girl goes on a cross-country road trip with old friends. The pregnancy was a result of rape by one of those friend's boyfriend. She confronts this man, later falls down some stairs, and loses the baby. Oh yeah, and SHE'S NOT THE STAR OF THE FILM."

There was a minor meme going around that said along the lines of:

If you're ever afraid to share an idea, at one point in a meeting, someone said "Let's make a film about a tornado filled with sharks."

Even better: that idea made money.

I disagree with a lot of what they said, but they're funny in their delivery of it. Their Half in the Bag reviews are pretty much first reactions after coming home from the theater. In the SS review, they clearly missed a few key plot points which impacted their review. That said, the two guys split on their recommendation even though the pro-SS guy wasn't giving it a hard approval.

So, I saw Proof. I saw it for the math and, well, not much math. It's mostly a paint by numbers drama, But Paltrow actually acts well in it. Sir Hannibal Lecter chews scenery. Jake Gyllenhaall plays this guy.

Anyway, it's dumb. π remains the best movie about math.

How terrible is this new Ben-Hur movie going to be?

Turrble. /CharlesBarkley

Isn't there some sort of rule/curse about Bible movies? I mean, the only ones that I think did well at the box office were ones that were condemned by the Church or protesters.....

The trailer made me want to burn Hollywood to the ground. There were audible groans in the theatre where I saw it.

Only a matter of time til Megan Fox plays Scarlet O'Hara.

That being said, The Magnificent Seven remake looks passable. Especially since it's a remake of a remake.

And the remake was better than the original, so maybe they'll continue the trend.*

* Spoiler: they won't
