Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Good lord...how many flipping Star Wars origin films are they going to make. Whats next R2D2?

It's Disney.

Anyone who though the Disney acquisition wouldn't result in not only Ep. VII-IX, but also a sh*tload of other films, is stupid. Disney has semi-openly drooled about owning the Star Wars franchise for years. Obvious grab for them - easy marketing, endless toy revenue.

As far as Lucas and his kids are concerned, he's a mega-genius. As far as the fans are concerned, Thank #$(P*#$#ing God that Lucas is not involved with any of it now.

Han Solo
Obi-Wan Kenobi (trilogy?)
Boba Fett
Yoda
Ashoka

They may even go back and examine Palpatine's role in Anakin's birth. Plus the eventual Knights of the Old Republic stuff which could be several movies worth of material, or a show on Netflix. Plus at least one show on ABC and another on Disney.

There is no end to what they can set in the Star Wars universe. A buddy cop film? A sitcom? A young adult series on Disney XD? A kids show on Disney? A western? A procedural where the Jedi solve mysteries each week? Given the huge appetite for all things Star Wars, Disney plans to incorporate the brand into everything they can over the coming decades. They will wring every last penny from the franchise until it is nothing more than a charred ember. By that time though we'll all have shuffled off this mortal coil and it'll be our grandchildren who finally tire of it.

Don't forget the hit Broadway Musical behind the music.

If the Disney executives can figure out how to turn a profit on it..

Don't get me wrong. Right now the franchise is in very capable hands. Kathleen Kennedy has made all the right moves and guys like Filoni and Hidalgo treat the Star Wars brand like it was their child. They aren't going to be around forever though. Under this team you might see an Obi-Wan movie and possibly the Ashoka story. Star Wars X, XI and XII are guaranteed as well. But the time will come when they are gone and those ideas become reality.

They've had three scheduled for a long time now: Rogue One, Han Solo, and the third is untitled/undecided, though rumored Obi Wan Kenobi. If they sell well Disney will milk it for more of them with other characters and other filler stories. It's Disney. And they're not all going to be origins, necessarily, that's why Disney has them listed as anthology projects.

Her name is Ahsoka, not Ashoka. It's a nod to the Samurai-movie origins of the original Star Wars, I'm pretty sure. Also, given that she's an alien, it's unlikely that she'd be a main character in a movie. It costs so much more than simply having a human actor in a simple costume, so the CGI and puppet/full-suited characters will all be tertiary. Disney is, if nothing else, very aware of its budgets.

Ahsoka might get a film just because she is Filoni's creation and he could easily get the green light. It might be another animated film like Clone Wars, or a live action film starring Ashley Eckstein who does the voice on Clone Wars and Rebels, and just did the narration on the Ahsoka novel. I haven't listened yet but she is getting rave reviews. Disney loves her and she adores the character. I think Filoni gets his Ahsoka movie by 2025 but whether it is animated or live action is yet to be determined.

The calendar:

2015: SW 7 TFA
2016: Rogue 1
2017: SW 8
2018: Han Solo
2019: SW 9
2020: untitled - probably Kenobi
2022: SW 10
2023: untitled - possibly Boba Fett
2024: SW 11
2025: untitled - possibly Ahsoka
2026: SW 12

Prequels, origins, it doesnt matter it is filling in stories no one was really clamoring for. I have no interest in anyone else playing Lando or Han...

And as I say every time one of these ridiculous movies gets announced...I am not surprised by any of this (I said it in a thread here when they bought the rights) but I am still going to comment every time they do it. Thankfully I am not a completist about stuff like this so I will just skip 90% of the crap they put out :D

It's no different than what Marvel and DC are doing is it? As a non-comic book reader if you had told me 10 years ago that I will thoroughly enjoy a movie called freaking Ant Man I would have laughed in your face. :) X-Men origins? Obi has already been played by 2 different actors and not horribly so the 2nd time around so why not Han? I agree that on it's face a movie with Lando as the central character doesn't excite me right now, but neither did Deadpool and it was awesome.

I am no fan of the proliferation of those movies either...which is why I see like 1/3 of them ;)

I've seen 4, 5, 6, 1, and 7.

I wish I had my money back for 1.

I'll see 8 and if that doesn't suck then 9. That's enough for me.

4 is the only one I would watch again.

Empire rules. Rules.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Empire is a fantastic movie.

It's fine, I'm not saying it's not.

This is the Alien v Aliens fight. Nobody should take offense. I just think the originals (in both cases) are better.

If it makes you feel any better Road Warrior is better than Mad Max. :)

Man Vs Snake:

Documentary about the arcade game called Nibbler (remember the old cell phone game "Snake"? This was the origin game) and a couple people chasing the high score and the first to ever score 1 billion points on an arcade game. It's interesting and all, but honestly, it's a B-version of The King Of Kong. And yes, Billy Mitchell is in this one as a supporting player, and he somehow doesn't come across as a d-bag.

Sample This:

Documentary about the song "Apache" by the Incredible Bongo Band, and how it changed music. A bit scattered in the storytelling, but man, once you realize HOW many artists used samples from this track, and band....amazing. Truly amazing. You won't know half the musicians (well, maybe Karlsson might, given his degree in music) since they are studio musicians, but that doesn't matter. What an influential song and long, strange history behind it.

Song itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY-Z6wm6TMQ

This is true. I've heard so many people over the years claim the reverse and I laugh that they're trying too heard to be purists or something. Mad Max was fine but Road Warrior is the one I will stay on if flipping channels.
