Michael Moore can eat a Richard. You wanna talk about slanted "documentaries..."

Don't treat them as factual and they can be funny. Roger & Me is actually genuine, which isn't surprising since it was made before he cashed in and became famous as the liberal Goebbels. Sicko wasn't half bad for humor. Fahrenheit 9/11? Yeah that was a pantload of Bush-bashing conspiracy theory garbage.
I won't pay to see his films in the theater though. I wait for them to hit the bargain rentals section.

The Wave (Bølgen).
Norwegian disaster movie set in the real life town of Geiranger. This tourist town sits at water level in a fjord. The mountains that surround it are geologically unstable. It is inevitable that someday a sufficiently large slide will create a tsunami which will destroy the town with 10 minutes warning.
Wonderful atmosphere as only Scandies can do. Uneven characterization; some nice effects. Solid B, I'm not sure why it wasn't more. If the characters had been as developed (and well-acted) as those in Force Majeure, a Swedish film with some superficial similarities that concentrates much more on the characters and relationships, it would have been special.
Saw this one too- really enjoyed it. Dialogue isn't extensive for those allergic to subtitles
I hope this one works out better for Moore than the last one.

The last time Michael Moore made a film with the intent of swaying an election (2004), the candidate he opposed got re-elected and his film spawned the Citizens United case. Thanks Roger.
I'm not as convinced as you that Citizens United will be overturned, no matter how much stacking of the Court HRC gets to do.Citizens United might actually save our democracy when it is overturned. We need the Courts to recognize that limitless private and corporate contributions to campaigns are fundamentally anti-democratic. They give the rich a weighted vote and disenfranchise the poor.
One man one vote , if taken seriously, means public financing of elections. This is the only way we'll ever throw the bribers out of the temple.

says the loudest voice against enacting laws that provide for exactly that??? and why do you exclude women from the right to vote? One man one vote , if taken seriously
nice naïve idealism. NY has public financing of elections and people are scamming the system, setting up minor parties to win enough of the vote to get public financing so that they can then staff these parties with friends and relatives whose salaries are now paid by the state. Public financing might sound nice, but it will turn into another corporate welfare program; and the costs of running elections will not be reduced at all, and this spending will turn into another budget-buster. Incumbents would become even more entrenched, as they would be the ones crafting the fine print behind the actual implementation. Do you seriously believe they will not write the laws to their own advantage?public financing of elections. This is the only way we'll ever throw the bribers out of the temple.
Thanks Eyore!![]()
Good lord...how many flipping Star Wars origin films are they going to make. Whats next R2D2?
