Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Same as all humans: 10 percent.

Humanity basically breaks down along the 1:8:1 rule. 10% stupid, 10% intelligent, 80% average. 10% saint, 10% sociopath, 80% average.

Why would cops be any different?

According to this, there are 900k sworn police officers in the US. So, 90k bad cops.
Never took stats in school but I would have pulled out 2.5% as the answer. Two standard deviations collecting 95% of the population, etc.

I was actually going to go with 1 sd (16/68/16) but I didn't want to clutter it.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

I'm not putting words in anyone's mouth.

Sorry to pick on Brent, but that was in this thread. I'm sure I can find more by checking the other thread.

Notice that his focus is on one cop, who "never should have been on the force" anyway. Well, it turns out that it was more than just that one cop, after all...

That was my point. Not that "all cops are bad".

You forgot to bold the "From what we know" (which, at THIS time, we have more information).

Keep derping, though.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Everything is awesome!

Remember the Duke case, where the initial info had all but convicted the players? Then, you know, MORE info came out and things went completely sideways?

Huh. Amazing at how a lack of info/learning of more info changes things.

Yeah, we learned how awesome it was that the police tackled and handcuffed a 14 year old girl.

And with that new information, I will say that more than just the original cop should be punished. Again, based on this new information only. See how this works?

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

It's awesome that he was able to undergo years of training and graduate the police academy with the proper experience and knowledge to deal with those situations in such a short time. Imagine the savings that are coming to taxpayers as a result.

Please. That is not the issue here. The issue is that most people don't realize how quick things can happen/the dangers of any given situation. Like the cliche says, "there is no routine traffic stop."

Wait, you mean he didn't get that education and training? Bummer.

OTOH, this shows that all that silly training is a waste. They can close the police academies and pass the savings on to taxpayers.

Wannabe troll is bad at trolling.

Let the adults talk. Thanks.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Let's find out if the training makes a difference.

Hey SteveP...as someone who has gone through the training, how would you have handled the situations in the video?

*I* can even answer this, from a person who's had multiple family members in the force. It does matter. However, most people don't really get what "split-second" decision means in that line of work. Sometimes, it's really you or him. Or you have to diffuse the situation RIGHT NOW. Or, you know, you're dead. In the CLE case...horrible decisions. In many other situations...well, best of luck. Hope someone's looking out for you. You never know. And that's the key. You NEVER know.

I still hear people say "why doesn't the officer shoot the gun out of the person's hand?" Um....no. That is not what they are trained to do. You shoot at the largest mass-point, which is the torso. Or, you use appropriate force to negate the threat, until the threat is gone. Period.

Or like the reported gang rape on broken glass that never happened in the fraternity at UVA that had Rolling Stone publish that "oops, sorry, never mind" retraction.
