B1G Championship in Detroit

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

You can't always tell wear a fan is from when they are not wearing team colors. I went to all my gopher games this year without a gopher jersey, because I gave all mine away.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

No way there were 10,000 actually attending the Saturday championship game. I would have guessed 10-11 for the Friday MN game - but the MN fans did not show for the other games (nor did they ever in the WCHA either, once they lost).

For the old WCHA F5, attendance was usually around 15-16K avg, depending on the teams involved. That's real attendance, not tickets sold. Granted, the Thu afternoon game was much lower than that, but the Fri/Sat night games were higher. I want to say the record for total attendance was around 85K (five games) but I'd have to look it up. I went to all the MN games, and would at least check out parts of, if not stay for, the other games.

ONE time I missed a MN game, and that was because a good friend didn't have a ticket, so I gave him mine. He has been a fan for a longer time, so I thought it was the right thing to do.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Looking at Ticketmaster right now. Most of the seats in the lower bowl on the sides are sold for each day, but basically everything behind the net is empty.

Upperbowl is general admission so you can't tell how many seats are left. However, only the three day pass is under "tickets close to sold out" zoning in the upper bowl. Single session tickets still have almost full availability.

Related: I was checking out seats for the WCHA in St Paul, and it looks like they are not even offering upper bowl seats. And I'll be dammed if I'm paying $40+ (includes fees) for a ticket to a game for this tourney.

Me neither (but for B1G). All those tickets on the side must be from contests and giveaways, because I don't know who would be buying a 60 dollar ticket for the Thursday games. I'm just going upper bowl and going to see if I can sneak down. If not, Joe Louis has decent views from the upper bowl.

$35 if you just buy it from the box office when you go to the game.

I'm not expecting to pay that much, though. Tickets on the street will be lower than face for the WCHA Tournament...I suppose it helps if you are just buying one and start your bid by saying "how much for your cheapest single?"

There were usually two types of tickets I got through a connection for the F5 at the X. Corner, row 9 or so, lower level --OR-- about 3 rows from the ceiling, dead center behind the goal. I preferred the latter. Got to see plays develop, no obstruction, etc. I prefer the bird's eye view in that case. Honestly, not a bad seat in the house to begin with, so that is a plus. The nosebleeds is where I saw the Wheeler goal from years ago, and you could SEE it turn into what it was, because of the POV. It was awesome.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

I had front row for the GLI this year behind the net thanks to a friend. It was really cool for the first period or so, but it got old pretty fast trying to watch what was going on at the other end of the ice though the stanchions, and the net, and the goalie, and the referees. Even when the puck was in the near zone, 11 guys being contained inside the blue line ends up screening a lot of plays. Give me a seat pretty much everywhere else in the arena, I'll be fine not sitting on the glass for awhile.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Well, in spite of all the negativity, we got whole weekend tickets. Thanks to us losing on Saturday night.

Just going to try to have fun.

Still, it's not about the location, except that it's a "B1G Championship" that can be shown on TV. There's enough money there that it does not matter if they sell out. Which, to me, is further reason why they should consider Pittsburg and Columbus, too. Heck, even the Bradley center should be an option since they don't care how many show up.

Nah... if they're going to go to one neutral site, they'd probably end up in Chicago. That's where the B1G mothership is located. That wouldn't necessarily suck.

I really had been considering heading up for the games, but there's a conflict Saturday night, and too much travel coming up to justify it this year. Also, I think I may be too used to the Final Five, and all the fun had tailgating with friends, to find heading to the Joe appealing. There's not much down there. Maybe when the new rink opens, that could change.

I'm pretty sure when I bought my Final 5 tickets, I got them for $75 per seat, so, $25 per game per seat. On the glass. That isn't outrageous, in my opinion.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

I like the Chicago ideas some of you have brought up. It's a cool town with lots of stuff to do/see and it's a fairly central location.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

I wouldnt mind a seeing the tournament in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Columbus as a rotation for each team to host or just pick a city and leave it there.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

How about the team that finishes first in the regular season gets to host the following year? :)

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Wasn't that the original plan?

I can't remember if it was the current format or if the top two got byes and the bottom four did a best-of-3, but I recall an original announcement being made about the tournament being held at the regular season champion's rink. That would've been fun, but I also remember OSU and UW fans complaining because they rent out their arena for basketball and wrestling during playoff time and would never be able to host.

Because 'they rent out their arena' is not the reason 'they would never be able to host'. ;)
