B1G Championship in Detroit

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

One note about travel- at the moment, I94 is closed between MI-39 and downtown- we had a bad accident last week, and the resulting fire pretty much destroyed the road surface. I know it's being work on furiously, and may be done by next weekend.

I-94 reopened this afternoon.

I really hate this conference and its bull****.

The original "tournament" setup was a 3v6 and 4v5 first round best of 3 on campuses and then a single elimination semifinal/final at the arena of the conference champion.

The attendance will bomb. Joe Louis is a dump. Neutral site hockey sans Frozen Four needs to be euthanized.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Your official bracket-

Thursday-
4 PSU vs. 5 OSU | 4:30
3 U-M vs. UW | 8pm

Friday-
1 MINN vs. 4 PSU/5 OSU | 4:30
2 MSU vs. 3 U-M/6 UW | 8pm

Saturday-
Championship | 8pm

All games on BTN.

The attendance at that 4v5 game should be interesting.

There's a reason the CCHA dropped the "Super Six" down to a 4 game format - no Thursday attendance.
If they did an on campus tournament first round and Ohio State ever finished high enough to be a host team they would be in trouble just like before as they lose their arena and the ice is COMPLETELY removed for the state high school wrestling tournament and all other venues that have ice are booked solid.

One neutral site I would not be opposed to at all would be the Huntington Center. Why? Well it sure beats the hell out of seeing a depressing 3/4 empty 20K seat arena as opposed to a 7K arena with some bare spots.

I don't even really consider Toledo part of Ohio. It's like the nice version of Detroit for me. And the Huntington Center is a hell of a lot nicer than the crumbling JLA. I can walk through downtown after a Hens game at night and not worry about any problems.

Having it here would be great!

Well, the actual bracket is pretty much a best case scenario for attendance. For all three 8:00 PM games, you're guaranteed to have either the Wolverines or Spartans. Friday evening you're likely to have both. If attendance still bombs, then yes: Having it at the Joe was a mistake. But let's give it a chance.

I was more referring to the top half of the bracket. I still think the B1G is jumping the shark on this one. Postseason basketball is going on next weekend, so really, how many fans are they expecting to draw for a rivalry game with one day's notice should Michigan advance?

My big problem is lower level ticket prices. Last I checked, they were $50 versus the $20 lower level ticket prices for every other college game at JLA.

What is this fallout because your team laid an egg at home tonight?:D You got a tough life...hate the conference, it's bull**** and you have to look at yourself in the mirror once in a while.

Early in the season they were quoting prices for all 3 days down low for just about what my season tickets cost.
I WAS paying only $35.00 a day for against the glass front row when it was CCHA!

It has nothing to do with that. A blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in awhile in regards to the sparties getting their first win at Yost in, what, 5 years?

It has everything to do with the frustration that college hockey hasn't been the same for me since the CCHA dissolved. Used to be making road trips to NMU, WMU, LSSU, BGSU, MU etc. in addition to going to all home games.

Now? It's boring. It's the same homogenized stuff that every other sport at Michigan is in terms of the majority of their schedule. I'm actually thrilled to play some old CCHA teams in the next couple GLIs. Lord knows the athletics department is making no effort to schedule any old CCHA teams. Perhaps that will change with the change at the top.

The attendance for the early game Friday isn't going to knock anyone's socks off, either.

Gee...a $15 loss. Big spender heh? Then don't go to the games and buy 4 bags of your favorite junk food instead, fk'n whiner.

Hey, I put up with the same BS from Gopher fans. So just curious....how long do you think it will take before you stop beetching and moaning about it like spoiled Michigan brat and just enjoy the competition. 2 seasons...3...4? Maybe find another sport?

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Unless a team from Illinois comes to the conference, I would guess that it would stay between the same two cities. Especially with a new Joe Louis in 2018. No reason not to.

$$$$ and CHI is the most central (although unproven) site for the B1G. The X is proven for attendance. And put your MI bias aside, DET is crap when it comes to this sorta thing. I will also admit that attendance took a dip in St Paul with the B1G, but it's still better than DET.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

While attendance will always be better in STP, I highly doubt the league wants an arena that is full of Gopher fans year in and year out.

Wait. That's a silly thing I just said. They don't care. $$$.
