B1G Championship in Detroit

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

There wasn't a single team gunning for him. SF was shopping him around before this season (we only know about the offer to the Browns, officially).

Typical Ann Arbor Arrogance. How successful was all that money this year? It bought a whole lot of middle of the pack.

Pretty good since the fans ran the empty suit AD out of town and the interim AD who no one knew pulled off the Football hire of our dreams.

Only a matter of time before Mel comes back. It's up to Red. You'll have Mel one more year at the most. You know it and it bothers you. Money is not an issue here.

Just saying he's a Michigander. Michiganian.....Michigandonian? A person from Michigan.

(It's the first one, I know)

Michigander v. Michiganian is an even bigger divide than Michigan vs. Michigan State. Michiganians think that "Michigander" sounds like a goose. Michiganders think that "Michiganian" is pretentious.

Some federal agency calls us Michiganites, but nobody here uses that, ever.

How about those pukes from north Ohio? :D ;)

I always used Michigander, but agree on the goose part.

How about we just start making it sound really ridiculous and say "Michiganan."

Plenty of people know who the interim AD is, at least in West Michigan. He's the man who took over as CEO at Steelcase, sent 10,000+ jobs to Mexico, replaced a good number of the remaining jobs into temp jobs, and was able to take the stock from 30 dollars to 13 dollars.

You went from a pizza CEO who ran a company into the ground to a furniture CEO who ran a company into the ground. Congrats on throwing Scrooge McDuck amounts of cash at Harbaugh, but if highest salary won titles Alabama would never lose.

At least you guys have settled on Mel being the next coach, instead of the outlandish idea that Babcock would leave Detroit for Ann Arbor.

Too bad tMel isn't leaving.

And those articles, especially the Jets, pointed out that everyone knew he was going to MI, but felt that they had to call anyway. Wasn't going to hurt. As I said, once MI needed a coach, knowing that SF was done with Harbaugh before the season even started, it was the worst-kept secret.

Harbaugh isn't the highest paid coach. He's making around what he did with the 49ers. And he's every penny worth it.

Anyone who thinks he won't do great things at Michigan, well......

Also, Babcock rumors were real inside the program. Not saying it's gonna happen, it hasn't been talked about in a long time and everyone is MUCH more comfortable about Mel now that he has started winning at Tech, but there was real talk going on in 2009 inside the ADept and program boosters (I am one).

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

We'll see about Harbaugh though I have met him. Les Miles should have been the man a LONG time ago.
I was talking to one of the assistant AD's I know there not long after *hit started hitting the fan about RichRod asking "So Miles didn't want to come to Michigan because he was committed to LSU and coaching them in the national title game?"
After a heavy sigh & eye roll the reply was "No, we never offered it to him, in fact NOBODY else was considered as they were fixated on Rodriguez."
Bo was no doubt spinning in his grave!
I later came to find out from one of Les' close relations who I ran into in Ann Arbor confirmed he would have left LSU and been on a plane immediately if the job would have been offered to him.

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Do fans of Michigan believe that with the gobs of talent MI has had...that Red has underutilized it on the ice? I made the projection to a poster MI poster Hobart Higgens a decade ago (I believe was his handle) that MI under Red would never see a national championship again. Who knows...but its seeming more likely.

Would it be fair to say that Michigan might have been lacking in the bottom half of their lineup? A lack of depth? With their superb top end - maybe as talented as any out there - that's what came to mind in the limited (five) times I saw them play.

Hard to say- we've got some serious defensive problems, including bad depth problems- both at the blue line and in the net. Of the 6 who play D, I'd call maybe 3 of them good, and only one of them a really good defender. Look at your second goal- that, and the highlight save earlier should not happen- maybe up to December, but after that, no. Moreso, after it happened ONCE, it should not happen again in a game.

As for never see one again- considering how close we were to winning the game in St.Paul (had an amazing chance late in the game that didn't score)- I still see that distance again. But to do that, the offensive juggernaut needs to learn to play D, and just as important- get out of the zone instead of panic.

I would not go out on a limb and say something isn't possible.

Or you could just say "I'm from Michigan" or is that too many syllables for you?

Re: B1G Championship in Detroit

Anybody else here in the Midwest getting a big kick out of the Meijer Big-10 commercials on TV?

The general gist of the ad is "with 14 teams in the Big-10, you get 40% MORE"

Following that same logic the BTHC must be 40% LESS.

That seems about right.
