Not a Flagship fan by any means, but in no universe was the boarding call on Suniev a major--especially with a game misconduct tacked on. The major on WMU was pretty weak sauce also. CCHA officiating crew so wondering if that league had a tighter standard on majors than the other D1 leagues.

Don't disagree. If anything, the WMU one seemed more egregious and he didn't get the gate.

Don't have any statistical data, but as a CCHA season-ticket holder, I've often thought our refs are a little "5 Happy" when it comes to penalties. Now I'll have to start looking for numbers.

I'm a little more lenient on this than others. Suniev had already boarded someone earlier and got 2. And then he goes and does it again. Not to mention UMass was in the game because of the missed trip 2 nights earlier. So no I'm not sad for flagship. It is what it is. UMass then got their own 5 and failed to convert.

Officiating has been horrendous this tournament. Have to give credit to the crew that actually had the balls to do the right thing and make the right call against MSU late in round 1 vs Cornell. Officiating, ice/rink conditions... it's not been an ideal tournament in many ways.

I actually thought the officiating overall was pretty good with the exception of the aforementioned CCHA crew and the missed flagrant tripping in the UMass-Minnie game by an ECAC crew. OTOH, the one NCHC crew I was able to see, and both of the HEA crews did well, IMHO.
