At Least We Have the World Jrs. During Break

Re: At Least We Have the World Jrs. During Break

I want the Kardashians, Republican Presidental Candidates and Barry Hussein Obama.

Dubber, the article says from its "peak". What year s that? In the 1970's my hometown of 5,000 people had 800 boys in minor hockey. There is no way we could come close to that number today. I doubt we have 400 boys of minor hockey age in the whole town.

Re: At Least We Have the World Jrs. During Break

You do realize that all the northern states (including Minnesota) are connected to the Canadian power grid and those states buy 4 billion dollars worth of hydro power from Canada. BC was importing power from the US but that was to recover payment from bankrupt American utilities who could not pay there hydro bills.

You do realize that without our implied military protection, Iceland could/would probably invade you.

Would maybe solve their debt situation...

Must be nice to not have to spend any money on self-protection. You're welcome.

I feel a little bad about myself for being dragged into this. Actually, I don't. :p

You still fail to see the point. We are only 70,000 enrollments behind you at the youth level. USA Hockey is growing, Hockey Canada is on the decline. And as USA Hockey grows, so will NCAA Hockey (more Americans choose that route than the CHL). Tides are turning pal.

Re: At Least We Have the World Jrs. During Break

Okay quick then tell who are the 3 longest serving CHL coaches? Quick now!! Don't look it up.

Longest serving college coaches are Jack Parker, Jerry York and Red Berenson. I think that is BU, BC and Michigan respectively.

You're right. You're way to smart for me.

We should pose this question to the Canadian Historical Society. Which is of course located in the basement of ex-Canadian Railway worker in Medicine Hat. It has three whole books I'm told, two of them with no pictures!

Dubber, 12 years ago a hockey equipment executive told me that hockey enrollment in the US had caught up to Canada. So what the heck have you guys been doing the past 15 years?

Lets compare Minnesota with Alberta. Minnesota has 5.4 million people and roughly 50,000 plus players. Alberta has 3.8 million and roughly 50.000 plus players. The numbers are similar today but in the past Minnesota has had more players. Its a simple case of Alberta's population doubling in the past 20 years. The thing is Alberta produces NHLers at double the pace Minnesota does.

If your ability to produce top end talent stays where it is....and if Minnesota is the most proficient state at producing top end talent then that means US hockey will need to have double Canada's enrollment to produce as much high end talent:p

Now when will college hockey produce a Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr....

Minnesota has over 60,000 registered players this year.

Thing is, most of the best athletes in the US play more than one sport, and for a long time a majority have focused more on other sports. Not as much in Minnesota, Michigan, etc...but far more than in Canada.

As USA Hockey continues to grow, and reach other areas of this country, you will see more and more top athletes focus on hockey. It's already happening.

Your forgetting, while Minnesota is producing the Zach Parise, David Backes, Jordan Leopald, Dustin Byfuglien type hockey players, we're also producing the Joe Mauer, Larry Fitzgerald, etc athletes that aren't focusing on hockey.

As USA Hockey continues to grow, top athletes will choose hockey more and more.

Look at Seth Jones (Texas), or Jason Zucker (Nevada) for example. Both top-end athletes who chose hockey. The Gophers just recruited one of the top 1995-born US players out of Florida (Gabe Guertler).

It's already happening. So much so that the Gophers have had to drop their recruiting strategy of just recruiting in-state, because more and more high-end players are coming out of non-traditional markets.

Now you are really showing ignorance. You think all we do is play hockey? Traditiionally only 1.5 -2.0% of us play hockey. In the past 5 years there have been baseball MVP's, world boxing champs, MMA champs, outside the US Canada has produced more NBA players than any other country, the list goes on and on.....learn some facts about your neighbour!!

And you're a complete moron if you don't believe a higher percentage of your top athletes concentrate on hockey than the top athletes in the US do.

I never said all you do is play hockey (Justin Morneau plays for the Twins). I'm saying that RELATIVE TO THE US you're top athletes concentrate on hockey more at this time.

And that is changing enough to make our large population advantage a big factor.

Get it, or do I need to create a diagram for you? My God.

Jonathan Toews?

You should compare Minnesota to Nunavut.

How come USA can win gold medals in hockey, but no one in Canada can play football, baseball or basketball worth a darn?
