The litany of excuses in Canada is rampant. My favorite all time old bit:

"If we had our U-20 kids that are playing in the NHL instead of just our B team"

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that one when they lose. Of course, the puffed chest, "it don't matter who we send out, we're still better" attitude prior to the tournament disappears until they medal in the Bronze game and then the "where's yours" comments begin.

Sad that we have to relish in their defeat, but every once in a while it is deserved (and it feels great.)

Related to what you mention is when they say that they could field 3 teams that could all be equal contenders.

The piling on is self inflicted.

My biggest motivation in international tourneys is for the U.S. to win, but a very, VERY close second is that Canada does NOT win. If you read on hfboards, most other nation's fans feel the same.

Can't stand their arrogance. Now who do they remind me of? :p

Exactly.

Normally, I wouldn't mind rooting for Canada if the US is out, but their conduct toward our teams in the last, oh, four years or so has made me reconsider.

Suck it, Canada.

No, I'm pretty sure I didn't. You just think you're special. And I guess you are, so there's something you have in common with the average Canadian. Though I doubt you've ever nearly OD'd on maple syrup.

The richest twitter response I got from a Canadian:

"You Yanks seem to be a bit touchy. We learned this behaviour from you". (In reference to me laughing at the excuses.)

Classic deflect accountability syndrome. Must be talking about our politicians. ;)

The response I got when asking about booing U-20 kids is unprintable.

Booing because of a certain brand: Not acceptable. Booing because the person insulted you (or your home): Perfectly fine.

The way I figure it is, the US is in 7th, so I want Finland to win this game, so the US can be in a group without Canada next year. If I understand how it works the groups will be: 1,4,5,8,9 and 2,3,6,7,10. So if Russia also wins today, the US will be without both Canada and Russia, which would be a consolation for Sweden losing.

Canada winning 3-0 in the third now. Finland has had some great chances, but can't finish.

Canada wins Bronze, some refuse to wear medals. Time to take the milk and cookies away from the spoiled brats, too.
