AOC Rules!

Re: AOC Rules!

Off-topic message to Rube: yeah, that was a terrible call. I never complain about officiating when my team loses, so I'll do it for you. I thought at first the play was just being blown dead for offsides or a hand pass or something. Odd to see such a weak call in OT.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I am boiling right now, and thank you for the complaint. It is appreciated. :)

Re: AOC Rules!

So rare. Rare as hell.

https://www.foreffectivegov.org/blog/map-displays-five-years-oil-pipeline-spills

Since 2010, over 3,300 incidents of crude oil and liquefied natural gas leaks or ruptures have occurred on U.S. pipelines.

Nearly half of America’s crude oil pipelines are more than 50 years old, increasing the chance of corrosion and failure. Human error and failure of operators to act on potential vulnerabilities in their pipelines also contribute to accidents. So do natural phenomena like lightning and earthquakes.

Moreover, only 139 federal pipeline inspectors are responsible for examining over 2.6 million miles of pipelines. That’s nearly 18,000 miles of pipeline per inspector – clearly not enough to ensure the integrity of our nation’s aging pipeline infrastructure.

Sounds like the companies who own these things are maintaining them well. Part of "clean up" is also paying to dig it up and replace it if necessary. We have to do that with roads and bridges. Why aren't these things done the same way? I'll tell you why. Digging them up and replacing them costs profits for the oil and gas industry. Easier just to leave the **** in the ground and keep using it.

When profit and the environment clash in the US. Profit wins. When profit and engineering/science clash. Profit wins.

Now let's not pretend anymore that there isn't a mess to clean up.

Oh good. More informed opinions from the dog.

Oh, so I'm not informed then. Okay, ban me like flaggy then if I'm Infowars level. Get it done.

Oh, and by the way. The biggest reason the mining company is having such a hard time getting a mine approved near the Boundary Waters is because NO ONE BELIEVES THEM when they say they'll be there to clean up the mess and that they can clean up the mess.

I wonder why.

Lol. You need someone to help you with that last nail?

Re: AOC Rules!

Cory Booker on MSNBC Hardball being interviewed. They're talking about large corporations. He referenced a polluted river in Newark that is polluted because the corporations that used that river left it that way and he's tired of that happening. Called it corporate socialism.

Sounds a ton like what I've been trying to argue in here. He wins the nomination, I have no problem voting for him. That statement was the closest any of the candidates have come to speaking to me.

Re: AOC Rules!

I think he should be careful using the word ‘socialism’ as a negative. I se what he’s trying to do, but our goal is to make that word less scary, not more.

The problem is the 1% have been using socialism forever to their advantage. It's another case where people are too stupid to understand what the word means.

You mean like all the farmers in Nebraska who will have both hands out for help but think everyone else needs bootstraps?

Especially when what he is describing is crony capitalism.

While I def agree, I'd say our goal is actually to make it go away. Its an irrelevant pipedream in today's US which only serves to rile up the right and scare the nervous center - and advancing it with lipstick won't help.

Sure. Make it go away.

Bye Bye, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Can probably add public schools too. Devos will be on board.

We don't need to discard individual policies that have socialist aspects. But true socialism in the US does not exist. Talking about it in a campaign season just frightens the easily frightened and bolsters the GOP.
