Antiwork 2: No One Is Getting A Pay Raise

"We just renewed our lease, so that means you have to uproot your life."

At this point, "we're back in the office" more than once a week would result in me seeking employment elsewhere.

General consensus is that they're doing this to encourage people to quit so they don't have to pay severance. But like almost all executive policies, what the dumbest kids in the room don't think about is that your best workers WILL be able to find other jobs and WILL leave. Which means the ones who stay... well, let's just say they're probably closer to executive material than the ones who will make the next iPhone.

Exactly the thought process amongst us employees in our company.

Companies don't care if the best leave. They will see the money saved by people leaving without paying severance (and without unemployment costs to the government going up), and reward a bonus to some mid level executive who came up with the idea.

Just saying, legally commute time isn't on the clock. Whether that matters for salaried employees is a different question.
Yeah, I’m union and I don’t get paid commute time. Heck, companies fight like heck over whether they should pay employees while they’re on a parking lot shuttle bus.

That's a terminal cancer

So uh... today I received some surprising and exciting news.

I was being moved into a new job and I'm now the lead engineer for a core discipline. It came as a surprise but I'd been working on a number of our standards and starting to take ownership of others.

Suffice it to say, I'm suddenly excited and motivated.

Congratulations, dx.

Congrats! That is very exciting. I can only imagine how great it must feel to have landed that opportunity. As for me, my job search over the last four months has been really exhausting. It’s been a rollercoaster of applications, interviews, and rejections, and sometimes it feels like it’s never-ending. I’m starting to feel a bit drained, so I’m probably going to reach out to extensis hr customer service soon and ask them for help. They specialize in matching candidates with the right opportunities, and I think I could really use some expert guidance to streamline my search.

So angry right now. These dumb *s I work with make more than I do, which I guessed, but it turns out I make about $20k less than the rest of the management team. My controller that left said we all make about the same, 'cause I inquired what the vacant material manager position "paid about the same". I asked the plant manager, told him I might be interested in materials manager, he gave me a ballpark, it was >$20k more than me. I told him I was interested and he asked what I make and seemed somewhat shocked. Figured out what the EHS manager makes 'cause he's interested in a different job, but said it'd be a $30k paycut, so I found that posting that had salary estimate. Yeah, that useless f makes 25k more than me. I have as much if not more experience, a better education and do better work than these guys. Is it because I don't have the proper anatomy to work in manufacturing?

balls. literally, I lack them and I think that may be the problem.

Maybe it's time to search for a job again. I've been enjoying the flexible schedule here and that is what has me not jumping.

I’m no expert on this, but I can’t imagine now is a good time to be job hunting for better salary considering costs are going to go up, everyone (smart enough at least) knows they’re going up and is making preparations for costs going up.

But that isn't what Americans voted for. How can that be?
