Another active shooter at Naval Station in Pensacola. This just a few days after the active shooter in Pearl Harbor.

The one detail that is being glossed over is that the hero was a trained, former officer and firearms instructor. That's a big difference. It wasn't just some rando with a gun. You all know my positions on gun rights, and I fear this situation gives reasons for the gun-nuts out there for "good guy with a gun." It doesn't, necessarily. This guy was trained. He knew what to look for, how to handle the situation, etc. He wasn't some "Oh, there's a bad guy, I gotta shoot him!" type.

I’d be interested to know where you read that there are people clamoring for untrained, random people to run around with guns.

I saw this on social media yesterday. Pro-gun people were exactly as Rube described... "see, see... good guy with gun shot bad guy with gun!" These people didn't take into consideration that the "good guy with gun" was trained and knew exactly what to do. Most randos would pee themselves if faced with a similar situation.

Most Catholic churches in MSP-land, sadly, have two or more armed and trained parishioners in the crowd during Mass. For the big Masses, like Xmas and Easter, there'll be four or more at the big parishes. These people are usually former military or police. I've learned too much about the inner workings of the church around here, my brain needs a good scrubbing.

I remember pulling these figures a few years ago when there was a big gunfight in NYC. NYPD documents the accuracy of their officers during "big" shootouts in public. The hit-rate was as high as 16%, and as low as 0%; their average was 6%. That's one in six shots fired hitting their mark on a good day, one in sixteen on an average day.

Why is it that cops will kill a black man if he is holding a sandwich cause they feel threatened but hundreds of angry stupid White Men with assault rifles LITERALLY THREATENING VIOLENCE cant even get a ricochet their way? If this was a group of Black Men holding legal guns in public the amount of arrests for violating the no carry law would be off the charts and AT LEAST 3 Black Men would be dead and a dozen wounded.
