We would have stringent gun control if it was black or brown shooters methodically mowing down thousands of white conservatives in their churchs and their children at their Christian "academies."

Conservatives only care about themselves and people who are like themselves. They have a pre-civilized clan mentality. The people over the next ridge are the Other and their lives don't matter.

Just got back to Bangkok after spending 4 days in Myanmar - mostly in the former capital Yangon. I was struck by the utter lack of police/security, and yet traffic was orderly and I never once felt unsafe. There was a complete absence of litter, of road rage and of incivility on the whole.

This is not a "defund the police" tack I'm taking here - but rather I simply find it so incredulous that in a country as prosperous as ours we can't find ways to solve for ANYTHING as it relates to violence. Myanmar has racism, it has poverty, it has hardship. And yet...

We have Republicans. It ruins everything.

Isn’t Myanmar run by a military dictatorship?

Yes - but you would have no idea that is the case which makes my point all the more. There is no "police state" like situation going on here. Now when you get outside Yangon things change up a bit such as there's more obvious signs of poverty. And yet still you wonder if they even have a military or police officers of any kind.

I mean, it’s been 2-3 years since the coup. Plenty of time to uh “remove” the “troublemakers” and have a nice appearance for foreigners like you.

I lived in Bahrain, traveled through the ME, visited South Africa dueing apartheid, was in Chile in 1988...

I've been to Thailand a few times since the government seized control and you'd hardly see any differences before and after.

Again have you ever been in a virtual police state that completely lacked any police or military presence? You can only hide so much.

They had some older woman who was the mother of one of the people that got killed in Louisville on the TV this morning. Positively heartbreaking.

Meanwhile, millions of Republicans got off last night while staring longingly at their AR-15.

Then they got off again watching that heartbreaking interview. republicans are sick, evil and twisted. They are loving every one of these mass shootings. I think the notion that they just don't care enough to do something, or they are willing to accept heartache and tragedy so they can keep their toys is way off. This is what they want. They act shocked and saddened by this and always offer their prayers (they have no left over thoughts to offer). But really, they are loving the F U C K out of this.

Maybe when enough people realize this, something might actually get done. Instead, the nuttiest and clearly evil 35% of this country have convinced the somewhat less nutty but decidedly not evil middle 25% that if we put one toe on the slipperly slope of reasonable gun control we're only a few short days away from jack-booted thugs confiscating not just our AR-15s, but every last firearm in the country. And that's how republicans keep getting elected in just enough places to prevent reasonable solutions from getting done.

Four children killed at birthday party yesterday. I already posted their rancid gov reaction on state thread.

several cops shot in Minnesota and Wisconsin in just the last week. Well, perhaps everyone and their mother shouldn’t have so many guns

KANSAS CITY, MO – Ralph Yarl, a 16 year old Black boy, was shot twice by a white man in North Kansas City after accidentally ringing the doorbell of the wrong home while attempting to pick up his sibling. The white man reportedly shot Ralph in the head through the glass door, then when Yarl was already bleeding out on the ground, shot him again. The family has described it as a hate crime, and community members are calling for justice for the young victim.

Do any of you gun idiots have any fucking sense at all? Ringing your fucking doorbell isn't a crime.
