And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

True, those were good fight sequences. Am I misremembering or weren't there good Wayne vs Ra's al Ghul fights in the first one?

There was the one fight on the train but honestly it wasnt much. The training was cool though. In the first two movies Batman was always fighting henchmen...Ras and Joker are not brawlers. Bane is a full on brawler and man he did not disappoint. The reactions from the audience both times I saw it were pretty intense.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Since the movie just opened and I know some people didnt see it yet I would rather keep spoilers around for a bit just in case. I figure by the end of the week though I would feel better about openly talking about major plot points.
Agree, though if you haven't seen the movie you're crazy if you read this thread.

Our theater was weirdly quiet (I think the crowd might have been older, it was a matinee) but I loved the Bane fights. The choreography is getting so much better from even just a couple years ago. The fights are starting to become little art pieces like the swordplay in the golden age movies.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Is it OK to tell people Kevin Spacey is Keyser Soze yet?

The theater I saw it at had a section roped off for a line, but the time we went the theater was not 100% full. It was maybe 85%.

Only one scene did the audience talk amongst themselves (I'm in Pittsburgh). Otherwise they didn't interrupt the film with their chatting.

Doesn't make a difference to me. I probably won't have time to post at length about it for most of the week anyway. I did see it yesterday, and did enjoy it quite a bit. I'll probably have to let it digest a while before trying to compare it to the other two, but I will say that all three of them have strengths over any of the other two.

I will say that I am once again amused by Foxton's antics. I'm pretty sure he could watch Casablanca and have a pretty similar reaction about how stupid the letters of transit are.

The IMAX at my theater had a roped off line, for the rest we just walked into a showing 5 minutes before previews and had no problem finding seats.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

I really liked the French Revolution overtones, this movie really could have been called The Dark Knight Rises, or a Tale of Two Cities.

One thing I enjoyed about the movie is that it gives you things to think about and talk about afterward.

I had a question about the last scene, if anyone else noticed?

Thanks!
My take on that: I believe she was... Couldn't see for sure from the shot though... It was implied in the scene where Blake goes and picks up the bag that has the coordinates of the Bat Cave however... The woman and her supervisor who are distributing the estate state that the only thing left unaccounted for in the Wayne Estate was the pearl necklace And they don't know where it is...

Also agreed about using the white text for the next few days at least... Although I think anyone that wanted to see the movie has done so by now... At this point it's just people who aren't gonna be that peeved if it's spoiled... More like "Let's go see a movie... What's out at the theater and playing at 7pm?" All of us "Fan Boys" have already taken care of business :p

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

I think, despite it being a summer blockbuster action movie, JG-L deserves an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor. Flawless performance.

I thought the scene with the cops vs. Bane's army was amazing, considering how many extras were involved.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

My take on that:

I had the same thought, it wouldn't make sense to have the discussion about the estate inventory unless that was going to be the case, I wanted actually to see it but the shot was over so quickly I wasn't sure....

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Was Selina wearing the necklace in the cafe at the very end? The shot came and went so quickly and she was a bit out of focus...

Thanks!
Just came back from the Imax version and the answer to your question was YES.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Is it just me or did Selina Kyle's relationship to the Holly Robinson/Jen character seem a little underdeveloped and vague? I know that Holly is sort of a surrogate sister to Selina in the comics, but the movie almost gave off a lesbionic vibe.

I got the same vibe. I think they might have done it that way so they didn't have to develop the relationship more.

I didn't get any feeling of any relationship between them, other than the good ol' "fightin over the same man" thing.

I dont think it is underdeveloped since it really isnt Holly Robinson. She is just some friend who is in the same racket, they seem to have a very basic friendship nothing more. It isnt supposed to be that character, that is just comic fanboy dreaming pushing it to be as such.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

I liked Bane more than Scarecrow. I actually thought Scarecrow could have used a bit more screen time (it might have made me change my opinion about the rankings). Obviously, I think we are all in agreement that no one will ever top the Joker.
True that.
He got plenty of screen time... EXILE OR DEATH?! :p
Yeah, I thought it was a really nice touch to have Scarecrow being the Judge. I still wonder though what they would have done if Heath was still alive and available to be Joker one more time. I could see Bane's thugs going into the prison, telling the guards to let everybody out, with a shot of of the Clown Prince of Crime looking all sorts of excited about getting out, and having Bane's right hand man say, "except for him!"
Maybe set it up a little to have Joker been the guy who wrote the Clean Slate program, or at least knew who did and he got his hands on it.
