Alright....so how do NCAA invitations shake out?

Re: Alright....so how do NCAA invitations shake out?

I willed this to happen, beginning on February 8th.........
I just received an email from my very own representative in D.C., the incredibly enlightened, supremely intelligent, fabulously well informed and self anointed Tea Party Grand Poobah Michele Bachmann. She has looked into the 2011 NCAA Women's Ice Hockey selections and with her finely honed sleuthing skill set, has determined beyond any doubt the unconscionable bracket assignments are the result of an Obama administration "takeover" of the NCAA selection committee.

I'm guessing a few forum members knew it all along.

As a Darty fan you should be happy. Their shot at beating the Big Red is probably much higher than their chance of beating that other Red Machine.

In terms of chances to win the first round? Yes. In terms of level of excitement to watch the game? Not so much.

Brookyone is finally coming around!

Hmm. This bracket may be the one thing that unites Badger, Gopher and Bulldog fans. In light of this bracket, we (Bulldog fans) will swallow our pride and root for any WCHA team that makes through to the finals. Go WCHA.

It may be the second. There isn't a lot of variance in our opinions of the league officials.

Not yet.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking this morning, Sappy. That if there is anything good, what-so-ever, of this mess, it's that I stand with teams that I might normally dislike. Immensely. I think it's a good lesson. GO WCHA!

Re: Alright....so how do NCAA invitations shake out?

Finally got my posting privileges, a mere five days after registering . . .

My response to David DeRemer, and anyone else who wants us to discard conspiracy is this: Is this the way the NCAA interprets its mandate every year? Are they consistent? Or, did things get interpreted a bit differently this year than they have in other years. (Which is not to say that I discount the possibility that they are always different.) Yes, it is possible to rationalize ways in which this year's bracket meet the criteria*, but that hinges on the assumption that it is done consistently. If it isn't, all those rationalizations accomplish is to push back the conspiracy to the step of deciding how to emphasize the criteria.

*FWIW, I think there is one glaring weakness in David's response. It hinges upon the idea that the committee has no problem putting three teams on airplanes, but absolutely draws the line at four. To me, this smells an awful lot like curve fitting. Absent some actual evidence supporting the idea that this is how the committee thinks (and, again, not just how they were thinking this year, but also how they have thought in the past), I'm just not buying it. It seems a very odd and arbitrary place to draw the line. I could buy speculation that the NCAA wants to minimize airplane flights, and is always looking for ways to do that, but not this hard line between 3 and 4. Not on pure speculation.

Re: Alright....so how do NCAA invitations shake out?

Twas the night before quarters,
No time for the weary
Soon we’ll find out
Just who’s going to Erie

The Krach and the PWR
Their relevance has past
The Rutter and the polls
They’ve aged so fast

The Homer’s they brag, they boast and they tout
They swear by their leagues and their teams without doubt
They spew o’er their players like a happy whale’s spout
Folks like Brooky, and Dave and Granddaddyscout

Committees, petitions, postings, opining
Cheers of joy offset by WCHA fans whining
Some favorites may win, save an upset here or there
I just hope and pray the results are deemed fair

Four teams have traveled, some far and some near
Some fans won’t witness in person I fear,
Some thrilled to be here and some thinking it sucks.
But it’s working for me and DC and for Hux! 

My closing thoughts as I relish this night
To all a strong finish, to all a good fight
Play hard and play honest, leave it all on the ice
And sleep well as I will, sign me Iceisnice!

What a wonderful piece, even with the liberties taken with actual fact. I myself have perpetrated zero bragging, boasting or touting. ;)

Unlike say, Grant & Joe...

Boston College women's hockey is going to ****ing ****can the Golden Goofers and it's going to be THE BALLS.

So DON'T ****ING MISS IT.

:) Wish I could be there. I'll be watching. Hope my Gopher fan friends at the rink get lots of on camera "celebration" time. Hope BC fans enjoy the game. A real treat to have two q'finals so near to one another.
