Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

This is what I'm talk'n about. Wait 'till we're not injured and we're firing on all cylinders!! Yeah baby

No. 2 Denver
Overall Record: 10-4-2 (8-2-2 WCHA).
Top Scorer: Rhett Rakhshani (11-9—20).
Goaltending: Marc Cheverie (11 gp, 8-1-1, 1.77 GAA, .940 sv%).
Grade: A-minus. What, only an A-minus? The Pioneers were picked to be the top team in the league and so far, they’ve been playing up to those expectations. I’ve also seen them in action quite a bit and they’re often times very sloppy. However, that also says that if the team’s not playing up to its full potential right now and STILL dominating everyone? Watch out if they truly get their act together.

Does this mean the same Direct TV channel , 683, that I've been watching the games on this year?

Oh God, now I'm worried!!

Worried about a Women's Hockey Exhibition Game? Say it ain't so....

Oh, whoops, I thought we were talking about the DU game, ****, now I have to edit on the other thread!!!

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Canada had the ice at 0930 this morning. Haven't seen this event advertised at ALL here  .... I expect a light crowd, unless Qwest is comp'ing a bunch of promotional group tickets or something. I'm telling ya', watch for a Vetter shutout.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

The Denver Post Poll last Sunday about the best Colorado rivalries ended up getting 2,177 votes. Its a pretty neat way of checking how many people read a typical DU game story online.

It also probably shows what percentage of people are primarily Bronco, Avs, Rockies or Nuggets fans but also might check out DU hockey stories.

I think what we're finding out is that DU hockey has a very small but loyal audience that grows when the team is doing very well. Interest in DU hockey also surges when DU plays "name brand opponents."

If they get a light crowd, it would be very disappointing. I was hoping the event might sell out when it was first scheduled.

I know that all the Girls Hockey teams in Colorado are aware of it, as my co-workers have been trying to sell tickets to the game fundraise for their daughters' teams. Other than that, I haven't heard anything in the media as yet.

I am thinking 2,000-3,000 at most. Spokane drew 5500 for a similar USA vs Canada women's game, but there are a lot more entertainment options in Denver. We'll see how it goes.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Yep; it would be cool to experience 6 thousand people chanting "USA". Just cheeses me a little I guess; becuase you see the Ski teams covered all the time in the media here, competitions & trials from Aspen, Snow Mass, etc etc. Now here they have 2 medal-hopefuls right here on I-25... not to mention thier Coach.... from Herb Brooks' MOI team... and they can't promote it?? Hopefully I'm wrong. Thier loss, our gain I guess.......

College Hockey stats is showing Ruegs with an assist on the 3rd goal tonight,
If so, that's 100 career points and the Century Club

Congrats to Tyler!!!!

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Interesting in league games this year, DU dominates the second period, outscoring the opposition by 20-11. First period and third periods are pretty much even.

I think this probably had to do with Gwoz' adjustments from the first to the second period. But I think DU needs to work on not having to get too defensive in the third period, taking bad penalties and allowing opponents to wheel around and pepper Chevy as time ticks away.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Wow what a great start to the weekend!! Those two ties (CC/SCSU and WI/ND) were probably the best overall results for us. Imagine the same results tonight?

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Could be tough, but a DU win tonight would be great.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

bump, **** I hate the morning after a loss:mad: What is it with Sat. night? Meanwhile, going into the break in first place is pretty great. Time to heal up, work on some of these issues and come roaring back in the second half!! Oh, and one more thing, I believe Murray has got to see some action soon!!!

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

On one hand, you can look at the first half and say, wow, great body of work. First place in the league, 3rd in the PWR, and the schedule set-tup is good for the second half.

On the other hand, Gwoz and his staff have plenty of warning signs that should keep the gears turning over the break - these are the top 5 things that need to be fixed.

1) Saturday night malaise (lack of focus? conditioning? playing down to competition?)

2) Falling too far behind in games (happens way too often)

3) Lack of scoring more than three goals per game (this is not good when Chevy isn't at his best or when Murray has played)

4) Turnover issues (always an issue at this level)

5) Lack of production from some players (related to item 3)

Getting thumped in the final game before the break was a good thing. Last night's UMD thumping was a one game microcosm of all five of these issues, and it reminds the Pios of all the hard work that still needs to be done in the second half in order to peak at the right time....

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Tough break for Patrick. Most American hockey fans have no idea how big a deal Team Canada and the WJCs are in that country, and to be cut last year and to be ruled out due to injury this year must feel just awful.

They only plus side of this is that he gets some heal up time, and a chance to hopefully play in the Denver Cup.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

So I haven't noticed any discussion here about Colborne not getting invited to the camp. Wasn't he a favorite to get invited? What's the story there? Has he not shown enough consistency this year for DU, or is it a case of Canadian bias vs. NCAA players?

I'm sure he's bummed. In the long run it may be better for him and the team here in Denver. He needs the rest.

I think this list is solid. The big surprises on the plus side so far have been.

A much improved fore check
A PP that is rolling along (improving as we go--somewhere around the 30% mark in the last four)
The KILL has been excellent. We faced the top two PP's in the league over the last two weekends and only gave up two PP goals.
D groups are doing better--working with each other--the freshmen are improving. I didn't see Saturday's game -- it sounded like UMD's first line killed Ryder and Lee at least twice. That said there's been improvement.
R and R have picked up the intensity of their leadership and play and that's going to pay dividends in the second half.

We play BC on Saturday night. I hope we can get rid of the Saturday hex. I'd like to see the Chev come back with a goose.
