Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

So I haven't noticed any discussion here about Colborne not getting invited to the camp. Wasn't he a favorite to get invited? What's the story there? Has he not shown enough consistency this year for DU, or is it a case of Canadian bias vs. NCAA players?

Colborne's broken finger came when the Canadians were making their camp invite list.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Ouch, that's too bad for him. I'm sure he would have made the team too.
Didn't he play in the Friday night UMD game?

He's been playing with a gimpy knee for a few weeks, and did play against UMD on Friday, but he's definitely not at full strength. I am sure DU let him play because he wanted to make that Canada Camp. But the Canadian docs perhaps weren't so sympathetic...

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

I'm sure he's bummed. In the long run it may be better for him and the team here in Denver. He needs the rest.
He is spending time with the Ottawa Senators and their doctors today. Anything could happen in the next few weeks and a couple of the scenarios wouldn't be good news for DU.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

After spending the last two days under the weather, I am on the road to recovery. Guess I didn't miss much in Saturday's game. Tough way to go into the break but the boys now have a couple of weeks to get healthy. I hope the Ottawa doctors prescribe rest for Patrick and he will be ready to go for the Denver Cup. Donovan and Zucker will be reporting to Team USA's camp this week and will play UND at the Ralph on Saturday night. It will be televised on FCS Central.

DU drops to #2 in INCH Power Rankings

There are many scenarios for Pio fans here to worry about - some having to do with the injury, some having to so with Patrick and some having to do with Ottawa's relationship with DU.

Here are several scenarios:

Medical Scenarios:

1) The injury requires more rest and docs send him back home to BC to rest up for the Denver Cup (best case scenario)

2) The knee injury is more serious and he could miss more playing time with DU beyond the Denver Cup (ugh)

3) Ottawa doctors recommend surgery and he misses even more time (ugh)

Possible Loss of Trust Scenarios (less likely but you have to consider them)

1) Patrick/family loses trust with Denver
2) Ottawa loses trust with Denver

In these scenarios, there is a chance that he could sign with Ottawa or jump to major junior. Hopefully this won't happen, but the pessimist in me has to consider these options.

.

Why would these two scenarios happen?

Why would these two scenarios happen?

They shouldn't happen, and probably won't.

But anytime an NHL team wants its own doctors to look into an injury to a drafted player, you worry that the NHL team might want to change the players' direction...Remember, Denver had him playing on the bad knee, probably because they needed him, and he wanted so badly to make the Canadian team. Perhaps if the Canada Camp hadn't been coming up, DU might have rested him. Team Canada's docs felt he should not have been playing on it.

Ottawa is going to check his knee, but the issue is that they have a different timetable than DU. They want him to be 100% when he reports to the NHL. DU wants him to be 100% by the NCAA playoffs in March. You just hope that the doctors will be in agreement on the treatment and the recovery.

There is zero chance Wiercioch is going to major juniors.

Does anyone know if the team store is open at all during the week? I would like to get my son a hoodie for Christmas.

I sure hope you are right.

But If Ottawa feels that DU was not acting in Patrick's best interests, there is always a chance that they could request a change for him. There is no such thing as zero chance when NHL teams are involved in player development plans. I think Ottawa is likely to be very to be happy with the way Patrick is coming along hockey-wise, but I do worry about Ottawa's medical opinions on the injury and whether they line up with the Denver docs, the team Canada docs or have their own agenda, and whether a medical trust issue would affect his player development track.

Bump!! Interesting post on the tDenver/ tUMD thread about Reuggs losing his cool on Sat. night. We've been hearing about this since Sat., but it would appear people realize this is uncharacteristic of him. What is interesting and encouraging is how many of the opposing fans (throughout the 1st half of the season) have complimented this Denver squad. Lots of "best team I've seen so far", or "fastest team I've seen", things like that. You gotta love this knowing we are still not up to potential. Good God if we can get healthy and work out a few bugs, oh la la!!!

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Two good articles on Wiercioch in DG's blog. Here's an interesting quote from one of them concerning Wiercioch's future:

The Senators love Wiercioch, who had 12 goals and 35 points in 36 games as a freshman, and has two goals and 10 assists in 16 games this season. They see a blue line with Wiercioch, Erik Karlsson and Jared Cowen, and they wring their hands with excitement.

“He just happens to be more talented than most prospects,” said assistant GM Tim Murray, who’s also considered a pretty shrewd scout. “He’s one of the best defencemen in college hockey.”

So, when is Wiercioch going to come out? Might this be his last year in college?

“Love it to be,” said Wiercioch. “But I’d also love to get a degree. That’s important to me. I don’t think it’s going to hurt me to stay there four years. But my goal is to play professional hockey. It might take one more year, it might take two years or three years of maturity.

“I don’t think it’s worth it to leave school right now and play in the American Hockey League right away. I’d like to have a legitimate chance to make the (Senators).”

Edit: Looks like Pablo is quick on the trigger today. :)
I had my coffee today, there's no stopping me.

I think one of the articles mentions that Wiercioch is probable for the Denver Cup. Great news, but I'd rather have him take an extra week off, if that will help his recovery.

Does anyone know who Mike Fischer is? I went to the USA-Canada game on sat and he was dogging me for making a comment that the ref in that game was making calls like Todd Anderson. I'm just curious.

USA Hockey's Director of Communications is Dave Fischer of Colorado Springs Colo. Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators is dating Carrie Underwood. However Mike Fisher was on the ice for the Senators on Saturday night against Carolina.

Sounds like a good story no matter who it was. Give us a play by play of how it went down.
