Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

DU should beat BC. It they can't beat BC at home then they probably won't do much in the NCAA Tourney.

We play well at Sconnie, so that will be an epic series. The MacNaughton will probably be on the line that weekend.

While a split at UND would be a good result, a sweep might send Sioux Nation into rehab.

Can Chevy shut out Minnesota twice more?

A split with CC will give DU the Gold Pan.

I agree that DU should beat BC at home.

The MacNaughton will be on the line during the UW series? While I agree that DU is good, not even the Best Gwoz Team Ever (Chambers) will have the Mac wrapped up in late Jan. ;) :p

The Sioux Nation might enter rehab before that depending on what happens this weekend against UW. ;)
That said, Genoway should be back by the home DU series for UND. That means DU will be lucky to leave with a point. :D

The sooner Sioux Nation goes into rehab the better. :D

DU certainly could and should beat BC at home with a normal lineup, but if Weircioch and Donovan are playing in the WJCs, that could really kill DU's PP. BC only loses one forward to the WJCs this year (Krieder), and forwards are easier to replace than puck-moving d-men. Without those two guys, I think winning both Denver Cup games may be very tough - so that's why I thought we'd get by UNO but would lose to BC. If either (or both) Wiercioch or Donovan don't make their respective junior teams, DU has a good shot to win that tourney outright.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

The critical stretch for Denver will be the back to back Wisconsin and North Dakota trips in late January. If the Pios can just win 2 of those 4 games, they should be in good shape.

Pio-Nation has chosen it's road trips well this year as we will have groups traveling to both series. We should be the support the team needs to pick up back-to-back sweeps and win the MacNaughton  :D

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

It finally makes sense when i remember that y'all think that the team mascot is an important issue. imvho NOT!

Mascots and symbols matter - a lot.

They are proxies for identity - how we ourselves and how we want others to see us. They are also markers of tradition and connection that link us to places and people we care about. As Pioneer fans (and some of us are alumni as well), we are all part of something bigger than we are, and a mascot is part of the shorthand of that emotional connection. They also generate badly needed revenue.

Specifically, mascots are also important anchors of school spirit, which enhances the way we feel about our school, increases the volume of cheering (which leads to better athletic performances and more wins) and gives us a sense of pride around our school and team.

The Boone issue, IMHO, is about much more than a guy in a costume - it's symbolic of a bigger issue of tradtion and revisionist history, tolerance of different ideas, and political correctness.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

I have a theory on how DU has been able to make this happen. What does DU have that virtually every Division I School doesn't have?

Not sure of the answer you are looking for, but DU has very unique facilities for some of it's sports. The lacrosse teams enjoy a facility built just for lacrosse - I don't know if any other DI school has that. Same for the soccer only facility that construction is finally winding down on. Combine that with the top notch facilities that the Richie center adds, the entertainment opportunities that a city like Denver provides and the year round awesomeness of the mountains, DU can attract some pretty good athletes.

I hadn't seen this before. DU's Youtube channel--has links to a bunch of videos. I found the interviews with Gwoz and the hockey alumni interesting. Also Chancelor Coombe gave a good summary of what's going on at DU in his alumni address about a month ago. He covers some interesting topics. Sorry DG, no Boone discussion.

Beau Bennett had a goal and two assists in an 8-1 victory by West in the first CJHL Prospect's game http://www.cjhlhockey.com/news/news_detail.html?newsID=105.

It wasn't a total loss as RPI's Nick Quinn had East's lone goal. :)

I listened to the first two periods and Bennett seemed to play quite well. The second game will be Wednesday at 7:30 CST (8:30 EST, 6:30 MST). It can be listened to here www.bigfm.ca.

Thanks Ralph, this kid is the real deal and DU is lucky to have reeled him in.

Acutally, If you scroll down a bit on the video home page, you'll find the "Defining a Pioneer" video, which takes a look at the evolution of DU and it's athletic tradtions, including Boone.

That O'Donnell kid that had 1g-4a and was named player of the game looks to be pretty good too. Does anyone know if he's committed anywhere yet?

Notre Dame is in the final stages of completing their lacrosse-only stadium. DU used to be able to boast that they were the sole owners of such a facility in the lacrosse world, but I think ND will play home games in their new venue this Spring.

Secondly, if you opened a bar on campus at DU, what would you name it?

I'm guessing this has something to do with Stick-E-Star. I heard that they were looking for a name change.

I'd go with a hockey reference that would tie in the community, the school and the neighborhood and its proximity to Magness. If you were going for a sports bar theme...

"The Penalty Box"

Check out the Penalty Box Bar next to the Fleet Center in Boston.

How about something like "The Border"?
