Yeah baby  We are still reaping the benefits from 2004 and 2005!! We were all hoping this would happen!! Yesssssss!!!!
I'd say the uptick in recruiting has been driven by Carle & Stastny's success and this signing may also have been influenced by Bozak's contract.

Needless to say, Zucker, Nick Shore & Bennett have the potential to replace Rakhshani & Ruegsegger. Maybe not right away, but they are on that level.

Heisenberg doesn't have him as 2010 now. He is coming to DU next year. DG and I have been keeping tabs on this kid for about 6 months and he will probably post a lot of info on him in the blog. He is from the Penticton Vees in the BCHL and is the 4th leading scorer in the league with 52 points in 27 games (22 g, 30 a). He is from Gardena, CA and just turned 18. According to the WCH blog, CC was also in the running for him.

Bennett's Profile

Interesting that the 6 recruits that DU has coming in the next 3 years so far are all Americans with 5 playing for U.S. based teams in AAA or the USHL including the USNDPT.

A great "get" with some verrrrry impressive numbers.

How bout the fact that we're one of the top couple of teams in the country, too?

DG--just read on your blog that the kid is from Cali, and that he had it narrowed down at one point to DU and CC. So I'm guessing that geography may have played a role as well. In any case, good job to Steve Miller, Gwoz & Co in landing another promising recruit.

As good as the future looks, though, I feel that THIS is the year that DU should do something special. It could be a while before we have the current mix of talent, leadership and goaltending. Gotta grab the brass ring while you can.

We know DU have the talent to beat CC, but the heart, smarts and preparation needed in this series has not been enough to over come CC's heart, smarts and preparation in recent years.

Your quote cleary indicates that DU has talent and CC does not. Think I'll hand this to Captain Mike Testwuide tomorrow.

DU, talent, heart, smarts, preparation.
CC, heart, smarts, preparation.

Or have I misinterpreted?

Make no mistake, CC is an elite opponent this season. They are doing all the little things right.

Kind words sir! Hope you will be able to attend both games, it is always good to see you!

Your hesitation was correct. CC has plenty of talent, and is an elite program. I never menat to imply that they didn't have it. All elite progams have the talent to win. It's what they do with the talent that counts.

My assertion was more that the Pioneers seem to beat many other elite teams with regualirity, but have had trouble beating CC, principally becuase CC plays with a liltle more heart, preparation and smarts than Denver has in the last three years when these teams have met..

DU seems to go into "stage fright" the night of these premier games, perhaps with the attention these games bring, and the expectation that DU should prevail. CC seems to come in looser and more opportunistic, and I think this has been a large part of their recent success. Plus a little talent.

Prebump (getting too close for comfort). Not to continue on this letter game from the other thread or anything, but DU is due!! I have to think that given the strength of our team, the light schedule that CC has had so far and just the law of averages, DU should take care of business this weekend, especially at home!!

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

I'm preparing for Howe to be lit up this weekend by DU.
Much like the SI curse, the frontpage article by Candace "PGH" Horgan on him will do CC no favors. ;) :)

There has been speculation as to what is going on with Cody Brookwell and Luke Salazar. The Denver Post's Mike Chambers spoke with both and reports that both are residing in chateux bow-wow. Cody did have H1N1 but is now over it. Both players are pretty upfront with Mike in his blog. With Wiercioch and Donovan going to play in the WJC, DU is going to need Cody and hopefully he returns with a new spark as he has been one of DU's most reliable defensive d-men over the past few years.

Now that DU has finished recruiting its 2010 class here's how DU could look next season.

Assuming that Wiercioch leaves early and Colborne & Cheverie stay next season. DU should be in the hunt again.

Beau Bennett --12 Joe Colborne--19 Kyle Ostrow
16 Anthony Maiani-- 23 Drew Shore -- Jason Zucker
Dustin Jackson -- 14 Jesse Martin-- Shawn Ostrow
Chris Knowlton-- Nick Shore -- Luke Salazar
Walk on or two

4 Matt Donovan-- 21 William Wrenn
6 Chris Nutini -- 5 John Lee
7 Paul Phillips -- David Makowski
Ryder, Brehm, Cook

1 Marc Cheverie
33 Adam Murray
35 Lars Paulgaard

Couldn't we win some hardware this year before we start speculating on next year?

Thank you Swami, hope to shake your hand at least once this weekend. Enjoy the games!!

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

The performance of Colborne and Chevy are the whole DU team in microcosm this season. Both players have loads of talent, and tend to play their best hockey in the biggest games, just as the team has. Both can step up and take over a game when they want to, just like the rest of the team.

Both played have also been hurt, and the injuries have hurt the DU team. Both players has also had some games where they haven't played up to their capabilities, primarily against teams with lesser talent, just as the team has sometimes struggled with work ethic agasinst lesser teams.

This weekend, Joe and Chevy are the guys to watch. If both play well, I think DU will have a great shot at success. Should they struggle, so will DU.
