Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

In case anyone wonders, I'll be "joining in progress" tonight as I'll be watching Oak Park HS close out its regular season at home. How great is it to be living in a time when I can be sitting on my a*s in Phoenix watching my old Chicago area high school play football?

Go Oak ParK!

Glad you let us know. Or we might have thought you had fallen in ice cresher for your Crown sno-cones:p

BTW mark your Lacrosse calendars:

Pretty early end to hs football season. Maybe OP has some road games left. TY for lax update. DU at UNC also to be televised.

Nice win and start to season for PIOS.

Playoffs next. The great Bob Zuppke won back to back state titles at Oak Park before moving to Champaign where he won 4 national titles and 7 Big Ten titles for Illinois. He took with him Oak Park's orange and blue color scheme. The Illini play on Zuppke Field.

I thankfully didn't listen to or watch Saturday night's fiasco, but just read that LaLeggia got a 5 min major (I think.) Is this anything that will impact his ability to play vs. BC?

No, he will be able to play this weekend.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Unfortunately I did listen to Saturday's game and it wasn't a lot of fun. In post game Monty said played pretty well 1st period but fell apart in the 2nd. Lost focus...really hadn't played a weekend series that required that. Playing BC will require a lot of focus and execution.

Joey LaLeggia only has 1 goal so far, but Zajac and Butcher have 4 and 3 points respectively. Q Shore and Trevor Moore are the leading scorers at 1=4=5. Viva leads in goals with 3. Even after Sat. Cowley has a Sv% of .937 and GAA of 1.85.

Although this is insane, USCHO has been showing a Pairwise since the 1st weekend games were played. We have moved up from 43rd (when we hadn't played a game) to 20th after the RPI weekend now to 5th  :D

Wow, we are just skyrocketing to the post-season. Ha.

Only a matter of time before LaLeggia gets on track offensively. Too much talent for that not to happen eventually. Impressive stats for Cowley so far.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Big news out of BC, D-man Santini out for the rest of the first half after wrist surgery. They are down to six healthy D-men. This is a very important series for DU that will have ramifications for the whole season. DU got their butts kicked by BC in last year's regionals. BC lost its top line to graduation and early departure. That line destroyed DU last year with Gaudreau being a one-man wrecking crew. Some revenge would be sweet. Having success against BC will have significant PWR implications all year long. If everyone recalls last season, DU's OOC schedule did not include enough high powered schools and that hurt them in the PWR. You don't want to have to win the league tourney every year to make it into the NCAAs, you want to get there on your own merit and success. That means beating the top echelon teams during the season. That also prepares you for the NCAA tourney when you only face top teams. GO DU!!!!!! BEAT BC!!!!!!

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

I think Santini was Butcher's partner on defense last year at the WJC. Sorry he was injured, but he will be back for BC's stretch run and won't be a thorn in the Pios side this weekend. Maybe the altitude will tire out the remaining BC blueliners.

Pios will have to take more shots and score more this weekend as even without Gaudreau BC
has scored 18 goals in 4 games. The good news 16 of these were against cc, RIT, and UMass--none of which are considered powerful teams.

Pios really need to cut down on the penalties. Against Duluth 17 for 56 minutes including 2 majors/misconducts. In 4 games BC has 25 for 50 minutes. Can't afford to be down/sitting a skater for almost half of each game

I find myself longing for the days when we treated BC like traffic cones. On the other hand, whupping 'em this weekend would be major payback and set the pios on the road to an outstanding season.

"I wanted a coach and got a priest instead" BC's Tim Sheehy who turned down a scholie from DU to play for "Snooks" Kelly at BC.

Old Pio- I knew a girl at your HS whose father owned most pinball machines in USA. Remember her?

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

When does the weekly Jim Montgomery radio show start up again on 102.3 ESPN Radio? I believe it used to be on Wednesday nights 6-6:30. It hasn't been on yet because of the MLB Playoffs; but I assume it will be soon?? It's kind of interesting because you can call in with questions. I always plan my dinner around it.

Not right off the top of my head. There was a guy on my block who owned the Chez Paree night club. Don't recall any pin ball moguls. In the old days, pin ball machines were a significant part of "The Outfit's" portfolio.

Laura Gottlieb, daughter of Alvin. I googled him, seems clean, but his customers were probably the boys. I love Mob books. Just read a great one about Sam Giancanna, Chicago's own. Very smart man. I met Laura on a teen tour of Europe. I didn't want to publish her name in case you were married to her
