Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Denver will get a rematch with Duke next weekend in the semi-finals. Duke beat Denver 14-10 on February 15 this season at Duke.

Notre Dame versus Maryland in the other semi-final game.

B1G is starting lacrosse next year. You know, they should invite DU as an associate member for hockey and lacrosse.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Well, the two TV lightweights are totally in love with Duke. Maybe DU should just forfeit next week. Wait, were these the same two who were so in love with UNC?

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

The seniors on this year's Denver team will be making their third trip in four years to the lacrosse Final Four in their playing careers. It's both fair and accurate to say Bill Tierney and his staff have put Denver in the position of being an annual contender for the national title. All that remains is for the team to win, what thus far, has been an elusive national title.

Even with the graduation of midfielder Jeremy Noble and goalie Jamie Faus the Pioneers should be extremely highly ranked in next season's pre-season polls and a bona fide contender for a national title. It's a pleasure to see Coach Tierney firmly has established Denver as a power in college lacrosse. Job well done.

95% of this year's scoring returns next season.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Entering today's game versus Drexel, Wes Berg [42-18-60] and Jack Bobzien [39-21-60] were tied for the team lead in scoring each with 60 points. In today's game Berg was [1-2-3], but Bobzien was held scoreless. I'm guessing Duke may look at today's game film to see how and why Drexel was successful in containing Bobzien.

In Denver's 14-10 loss earlier this season to Duke, Berg was [3-0-3] and Bobzien was [1-2-3].

Here's a link to Duke's lacrosse site.

Wow, that was some domination by Denver out there today. Faceoffs, groundballs, a shooting percentage probably around 60%, and they played with great composure (unlike Drexel). It's a tough road ahead to face Duke, and then winner of Maryland/Notre Dame, but this team has some kind of "it" factor that gives me optimism. Kind of like the 2005 hockey team, I dare say. It's fun to watch DU just pick apart opponents, and our faceoff guy was on fire today.

You gotta take the prize when you have the chance, so good luck to the Pioneers in the Final Four!! Would love to get out there to attend, but too many things going on in life at the moment. I am sure that Crimson & Gold will be a packed and crazy scene for the game.

Nice Boone coverage on ESPNU today!

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Viz: Get this. Mario, the Drexel Dragon was a no-show. What a joke. Boone was at his best and he gets 2nd star of the game. Boone was the only mascot at the game.
Tidbits from the game: I picked Boone up at airport. Thank you DG and I'll see you in Baltimore next week. DU student Boone is the nicest kid you'll ever meet. His parents and brothers made the game; very proud of him. 750-1,000 DU fans. Great pre and post game tailgates. Took Boone to breakfast on Main Street in Newark where he stole the show. Great photos on DU Facebook sites. Boone went to corner of Stadium so he could high-five team as the enter for 2nd half. All players did including Tierney and his assistants. Then Duke coach Danowski walks by on his way to stands to scout 2nd half. He politely refused to high 5 Boone. Boone in same spot as game ends. One ref says "good game Boone". Witnesses present.
Atmosphere- We walked in at start of 2nd half of Hop game. Place goes crazy as Hop get close. The ran out of gas and the stadium was very quiet.
Our game was different. Some fans had departed. Loud early as Drex scores 2. Stays loud as we come pack. We pull ahead. Even our crowd lost that gut churning feeling of being nervous as we dominate 2nd period. So it was a pretty mellow 2nd half and finish. finish. Lots of us were probably tired from our trips and just relieved more then joyous.
Kids have play-off beards. They were dressed in tie and jacket for post game tailgate. I believe their charter left last night at 8:30 for trip back to Denver.

ON TO BALTIMORE!!
