Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Here's a reason to like the Habs. They pay tribute to DU hockey right on their big scoreboard! "LE CLUB DU HOCKEY" They know what's up.
It should be fun to see who thinks I'm actually this stupid and feels the need to comment negatively.

May I suggest on Friday we cheer for "LE CLUB DU HOCKEY" ;) :D
and then on Sunday we cheer for "LE CLUB DU LACROSSE" :D

p.s. I saw the hidden message

Yeah, a real shaggy pink one would be nice. I guess this project keeps getting deferred. At some point, ageing facilities will negatively impact recruiting.

The whole mascot embroglio is a textbook unforced error. The idea that Michael Sam's boy friend, in lederhosen and a frilly shirt is a "Pioneer" is both insulting and ridiculous. Or a bunny rabbit. We have a perfectly acceptable mascot, with a unique history tied to one of our legendary coaches and one of America's most famous names. He's universally accepted by students, alumni and fans. Silly, overstated and historically inaccurate objections to him come from a microscopic group of student and like minded administrators. We spent tens of thousands of dollars to placate these people. And created a process in which fairness and integrity were thrown out the window, which left DU looking craven, dishonest and detached from reality. Nice work.

Guess who The Dunker is picking up at Philly Airport Saturday Night? BOONE! By the way, NCAA screwed with us so that as of 2pm Thursday, lax travel plans have not been completed. Trying to get a last minute charter. Otherwise, the kids may be flying into numerous airports between DC and Newark NJ. I would help ground transport to Newark, Del. but that would be a NCAA violation. Not sure if east coast lax parents are allowed to help carpool for same reason.
Make sure to text DENVER BOONE on Facebook if you see him on ESPN2.

Stop at Home Depot to get a fire extinguisher so he can put that Drexel reptile in its place.

DU's continuing success in lacrosse is having an effect on where some of the future NCAA tourney games will be played. The following is from an e-mail delivered today from the Denver Athletic Department.

===> DU Lacrosse Fans,
Sports Authority Field at Mile High has been awarded two NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinal games on Saturday, May 16th, 2015. As a valued DU sports fan, you will be able to purchase seats before the general public. The exclusive presale will run from May 20-29. Great to hear. I think the size of Dick's would make for a better atmosphere, but with the Outlaws surely involved I bet wasn't a consideration.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Boy howdy! Let's hope Zach is the first in a long line of Native American youngsters who come west to play for the Pioneers.
We won't have to wait long. Brendan Bomberry from the Hill Academy( Zach Miller's prep school) and Six Nations Junior team is due next year. In his spare time he plays hockey, but is a lacrosse recruit.
He committed in fall 2012. DG had a write up in the Lets Go DU blog.

Brendan is actually considered a better prospect then Zach coming out of HS.

I sure hope so. Team arrived by charter on Elite Airways around 7pm, safe and sound. Pretty sure we flew into Wilmington. I'm picking Boone up late tomorrow night. Boone is very angry because the Drexel site on laxpower.com told me to buzz off.e

The University of Denver lacrosse program picked up a huge recruiting coup this week when Brandan Bomberry announced that he would attend DU in 2014. The oldest of six children, Brendan plays for the Hill Academy in Ontario, Canada.
Bomberry has played for the Six Nations Arrows Express since 2010, this past season dropping 13 goals and 29 assists in the regular season and then 16 points in the OLA Junior A playoffs.
A member of the Iroquois Nationals team that upset Team USA at this past summer's U-19 World Lacrosse Championships, Bomberry netted three goals in that monumental victory. An outstanding hockey player with the OHL's Don Mills Flyers, Bomberry also also considered Syracuse, Loyola and Ohio State.

The date is 11/1/12 and in the comments there is discussion of other recruits.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Matt Donovan with his 1st goal at the IIHF World Championships.
And Johnny Hockey got him the puck.
Donavan, who was part of the gold-medal winning 2010 U.S. National Junior Team and is a current member of the New York Islanders, explained how things transpired.

“I was hanging out in my hotel room with my dad and I got a call about an hour-and-fifteen minutes before the game to hurry up and come to the rink,” Donovan said. “When I got to the rink, they said Trouba can’t go, so you’re in. I tried to get warmed-up as fast as I could and get ready for the game.”

With the contest deadlocked 2-2 late in the second period, Donovan rifled a perfect shot past the Kazakh goalie on a delayed penalty. A hustling Johnny Gaudreau – who was tripped and had fallen to the ice – slid a backward pass to the trailing Donovan.

“He buried a nice shot,” Gaudreau said of Donovan’s goal. “It was important for him to step up and get a big goal for us like that.”

“Somehow he saw me and I just skated into it and shot it as hard as I could,” Donovan said referring to Gaudreau's contribution to his first world championship goal.

“To add him late to the line-up like we did and for him to contribute like that was nice for him,” Laviolette said of Donovan. “He played a real solid game.”

Red Alert! Red Alert! I repeat this is a Red Alert. This is NOT just a warning. This IS a Red Alert. Assume DefCon position 10. DefCon position 10, immediately.

You'll never guess who's doing play-by-play on radio of today's lacrosse game. It's Jay Stinky.
