A couple of thoughts from the weekend:
Jay's interview with Seth Appert on Friday night starts at about the 47:45 minute mark on PioVision-Audio. You can actually sense a warmth/good fellowship between them.
Back to Jay being Jay--RPI skater Milos Bubela, Jay's first pronunciation: Milosh buhBOOla.

du78, you mentioned Garrett Allen was related to a Gold Medal skater and I'm thinking speed skater--Bonnie Blair ? Erik Heiden?

Did anyone else notice North Dakota is NOT in the Top20 on USCHO?:D

Bonnie Blair's nephew

Having our 3rd snowstorm in last 8 days. None were major but the frequency is unusual. 2 to 4 inches today, a mere dusting.

Chris Peters on TheUnitedStatesofHockey.com reports on the WJC evaluation process

Here’s what the forward lines will look like at least to start the game and in no particular order.
Stefan Matteau – Vince Hinostroza – Henrik Samuelsson
Adam Erne – Jack Eichel – Ryan Hartman
Tyler Motte – Quentin Shore – Hudson Fasching
Ryan Fitzgerald – Zach Stepan – Thomas DiPauli

Defense will look like this to start:
Will Butcher – Connor Carrick
Brady Skjei – Brett Pesce
Ian McCoshen – Anthony DeAngelo
Jaccob Slavin – Steven Santini

The defensive pairing of Connor Carrick and Will Butcher is one to watch tonight. They are both very good puck movers and seem to have some really nice chemistry. Butcher in particular looks particularly locked in, in this camp. He has been making some really nice plays on power play drills and showing some really good jump.

- At forward, I think the most pressure could be on Ryan Fitzgerald, Quentin Shore, Zach Stepan and Tyler Motte. They’ll all likely get some PK duty tonight and will have to show they can play a role to make the team

1 D-man, 5 forwards and 1 goalie will not play tonight. They almost certainly will be going to Sweden. Three will probably be cut before going to Sweden tomorrow and then 3 more before the 26th.

Also "participating" (banner not included) is CC frosh, defenseman Jacob Slavin. Slavin, a late addition, had 2 primary assists last night including one on the GWG. From Erie, Colorado, Slavin played for DU alum Angelo Ricci's Colorado Thunderbirds and last year was coached by DU alum Scott McConnell in the USHL.

Slavin picked up another primary assist in Team USA's losing effort against CC's Gustav Olofsson and Team Sweden. For the record... it's JaCCob. You know, like RiCCi and MCConnell.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

I had a chance to say goodbye to Coach Miller at the South Suburban Ice Arena at around 10am this morning. Sad yet happy to hear his last words from his lips was "Please don't let me cry."

Been a great run with him behind the bench.

Here's to a great new year and success for everyone involved for 2014 and beyond.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

"We are pleased to have settled on our three goaltenders and seven defensemen for the tournament," said Jim Johannson, general manager of the 2014 U.S. National Junior Team and also the assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. "Due to a medical matter, we are still evaluating our forwards and expect to make a final decision by our first game on Dec. 26." from USA Hockey

Congrats to Will Butcher on making the final team. One more forward to be cut before the 12/26 game. Q Shore is still in the mix. He has played in both games in Sweden centering the 4th line.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

Monty just tweeted that Q and Butcher both made the team.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVII

A very merry Christmas to all DU posters. I'll be spending much of the day doing a little preliminary needling of my brother, who's a Brown graduate.
