Welcome aboard! With a new coach and lots of players having left early for the pros, this team will be relying on a lot of young players. This year's team has 11 freshmen, 5 sophomores, 7 juniors and 2 seniors. The current senior class started out with 7 members with 3 having turned pro (Zucker, Bennett and Nick Shore) and two others having left for other reasons (J. Mermis and D. Olszewski). The current junior class started with 9 players with two having turned pro (Mayfield and Ulkinoura). The current sophomore class started with 6 players with Dakota Mermis having left midway through his freshman year to go to London in the OHL. The top returning players are seniors Sam Brittain (G), Daivid Makowski (D), juniors Joey LaLeggia (D), Ty Loney (F), Zac Larraza (F), Dan Doremus (F), Matt Tabrum (F) and sophomores Nolan Zajac (D) and Quentin Shore (F). Three of last years top 5 scorers graduated or left for the pros in Nick Shore, Chris Knowlton and Shawn Ostrow. They accounted for 89 points in scoring. The two returning top scorers are both defensemen in Joey LaLeggia and David Makowski. Ty Loney is the top scoring forward that is returning. The top incoming freshmen are goalie Evan Cowley, forwards Trevor Moore, Brad Hawkinson and defenseman Will Butcher. If DU is to make any noise this year, the returning players all need to have career years and the freshmen will have to contribute on a regular basis. With such a small senior class, the juniors and sophomores will have to have some leadership roles which normally fall to seniors. FYI, both goalies, Sam Brittain and Evan Cowley, are Florida Panther draft picks. DU has six NHL draft picks on this season's roster; Q. Shore, Butcher, LaLeggia, Larraza plus the two goalies.
