Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Report of DU Hockey Media Day by Joe Paisley of the Colorado Springs Gazette.:confused:
According to Mike Chambers, Brad Hawkinson injured his shoulder in "Captains" practice and may be a medical redshirt this year.

How can you have Captains practice without a Captain?

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

What?? How can that happen? They must be beating the crap out of one another. Wait for offical word though. That just seems like a major, major injury..... to happen in a practice. But what do I know. Medical staff are allowed to be onsite for these, I think. ****.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

Mike Chambers has a column on DU hockey's media day.

Now we know when a Captain will be named and who the favorites are.
To Be Named
Montgomery, who has never been an NCAA head coach but does have extensive pro and junior experience, doesn't plan to name captains until after the fourth game of the season. That's when the Pioneers return from the two-game Alaska Gold Rush tournament in Alaska, Fairbanks. He has had limited practice time with his team, which opens Oct. 11 to begin a two-game series against visiting Merrimack.

The top candidates for captain and assistant captains are senior David Makowski and juniors Joey LaLeggia, Josiah Didier, Daniel Doremus, Ty Loney and Matt Tabrum.

Sounds like Hawkinson will miss either all or a big chunk of the season.:(
Freshman forward Brad Hawkinson of Aurora suffered a shoulder injury in a recent player's practice and might be lost for the season, Montgomery said. He will be redshirted if surgery is required.

Western College Hockey blog ranking Hockey East recruits.
Former Pio commit Ray Pigozzi top recruit for UMass and wanna-be Pio Mike Szmatula tops Northeastern's class.
Ranked #7 and #6 respectively as top freshman forwards in HE.

BTW, "the Butcher" will face "the Pig";)on Dec. 17 in Amherst.

No doubt about it, we've been seriously smoked on the all nicknames team the past couple of seasons.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

According to NCAA rules, If Brad red shirts, now, before the season begins, can they replace him? Sure your next question is with who?, but just wondering in general.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVI

This per Twitter from Viva. That is two injured players and DU hasn't even started full practices. Also Emil Romig is suspended 8 games by NCAA for playing in a Euro league.

Zac Larraza ‏@zacLarraza16 31m
Hard go this week in practice. I broke my clavicle but should be back playing in 6-8 weeks. Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts #Pios

Chambers
DU is down to 12 available forwards. Freshman forward Brad Hawkinson injured his shoulder in captain's practice last week and freshman Emil Romig will serve an NCAA-imposed eight-game suspension to begin the season for playing in a European professional league.

Nick Shore sent from LA to Manchester.

Man that really sucks about Viva. I think we were expecting him to pick up right where he left off last season with lots of big goals. The customary plethora of DU injuries is starting a bit too soon this year.

Guessing that since the school year has already started you couldn't enroll anyone until winter quarter.

The big question would be would there be any schollie money lying around. Guessing probably not, but no way of knowing.

As to who, it probably would be Cody DePourcq or Tyler Pham.
