Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Denver is the #4 seed in the men's lacrosse tourney. The Pioneers will play Albany next Saturday night May 11 at 5:30 Mountain time in Peter Barton Stadium. If Denver wins it will play the winner of the North Carolina-Lehigh game the following weekend in Indianapolis.

Old Pio, Richard Milhous Nixon

Here's a little more on JZ:
Jason Zucker is clutch.
While in Houston, the rookie tied for the American Hockey League lead in game-winning goals. Tonight he scored his first playoff goal in dramatic fashion, 2:15 into overtime to give the Wild its first win of the series.
For many State of Hockey fans, Zucker’s goal probably trumped an earlier play for his highlight of the night. Not for me. With time expiring at the end of the second period, Zucker lined up Brent Seabrook and hammered him. Seabrook fell to the ice and Zucker stood over him like a boxer who just landed a knockout punch. I wasn’t the only fan of the play.
“I like seeing that, too,” Yeo said with a smile when asked about Zucker’s physical play.

UPDATE:
Game 3
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff start for Patrick Wiercioch (think he may have been injured in the 1st)

It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Goal for Jason Zucker.
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Game Winning Goal for Jason Zucker

And I thought this was news--In the Stanley Cup Playoffs Jason Zucker with a B-I-G hit on Seabrook to end the 2nd.

Game 2
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Assist for Jason Zucker for the Wild

Game 1
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff start for Jason Zucker, Tyler Bozak and Beau Bennett
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Assist for Tyler Bozak on the Maple Leafs first goal
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Goal for Beau Bennett for Penguins first goal
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Game Winning Goal for Beau Bennett

I was quoting the well known presidential historian Archie Bunker. :)

Who would have guessed these young men would do so well in the NHL? :p

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Still Standing:

ECHL--John Ryder-Idaho
AHL--Brett Skinner Grand Rapids and William Wrenn Texas

Team USA--Paul Stastny(C), Marr Carle(A), and Chris Butler

And as we all know, in the NHL:
Beau Bennett-Pittsburgh
Tyler Bozak-Toronto
Patrick Wiercioch-Ottawa (lower body injury in last playoff game)
Jason Zucker-Minnesota

Joe Colborne-Toronto (has yet to play, but played during regular season)

As of today, Matt Donovan-New York Islanders and Nick Shore-Los Angeles are "Black Aces."

Also Anthony Maiani with Allen in the CHL is in the finals. Allen won yesterday and series is tied 2-2 with Wichita.

Jason Zucker under Matt Culllen's wing in Minny.

Word in the UConn thread is that the head coach job there has been offered to someone other than Gwoz.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Lax thought:
Two goalies in each game- I do not like that for the tournament. Sometimes you need a hot goalie to steal a win and give the team momentem. It's unlikely that you can get two goalies so hot on the same day or days where this will happen. We have to trust Tierney no matter what.

Hard to say if one goalie has been better than the other.

The only way I'd tweak things is to stay with the starting goalie in the second half if he had an amazing first half.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Been watching the Maple Leafs game, noticed many familiar names playing for the Leafs
Going back to 2008-2009
Bozak-Denver
Frattin-North Dakota
Gardiner-Wisconsin
VanRemisdyck-UNH
on the roster
Colborne-Denver
Scrivens-Cornell

Kessel-Minnesota was already playing for the Bruins in 2008-09

Leafs just lost in OT:(

UPDATE:

Game 5
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Goal for Tyler Bozak.
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Short Handed Goal for Tyler Bozak
(Bozak had 5 shorties as a freshman placing him 4th on DU's single season list)

It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Game Winning Goal for Jason Zucker

And I thought this was news--In the Stanley Cup Playoffs Jason Zucker with a B-I-G hit on Seabrook to end the 2nd. BTW Seabrook is 4 inches taller and almost 40 pounds heavier than JZ

Game 2
It's the 1st Stanley Cup Playoff Assist for Jason Zucker for the Wild

I watched live stats spasmodically so I hope dg got Boone to show on LetsGoDU. As i have said before ESPNU and Time Warner suck:o

Good Luck to the Women's Lax team tomorrow! First NCAA invite, first NCAA win. Do it again ladies!

Must say since we have Pioneers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, I have more interest. Zucker is out, Wiercioch is injured (still have hope for him), Bozak is still playing and I'm now cheering for the Islanders since the Pens aren't playing "Sunshine", Beau Bennett.

Shoot the Pens just won in OT:(
