Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Some questions about 2012, if I may:

I wasn't expecting 4 goaltenders again for this coming season. Can or will they drop Zack in lieu of another skater, either now or later in the year?

Is Bennett expected to dress & be ready for the exhibition game?

I understand that Coach Miller sometimes is out of town during season, looking for fresh meat. With the departure of Assistant Coach Carle, are they filling Carle's staff slot, or going back to the "old" system and will just divvy up the game day duties that David was performing?

Does anyone know if the schedule for early October is now indeed confirmed and set, in terms of the Presidential Debate? I remember comments that it still may be subject to change. Also - will DU be able to work out a Joy Burns while they prepare Magness for the Debate?

Thanks

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Today is July 28, 2012.
There are 70 days (10 weeks) until DU's next game.

Exhibition game October 6, 2012

OK, that's a little better. I will start getting excited when it gets under 30 days. Then I can start worrying about the team and the questions about the offense!!

As for your questions "32 degrees", Bennett has signed with the Penguins, unless you were talking about his little brother?

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Kinda interesting how similar DU's new logo is to the one NBC's using for the Olympics. Years ago, NBC unveiled a new network logo only to discover that it was a duplicate of the one used by Nebraska public TV. Oops.
I noticed the same thing. Those copycats at NBC are at it again:p

Shame it's happening this year when Sturm's employment numbers are up. If NBC had pulled this stunt a year ago, DU would've had a small army of unemployed lawyers to take them on. ;)

One more question about this coming season, please. The US Hockey Hall of Fame game/weekend...... does that mean the North Stars' draft pick Mike Modano will be or should be here in town for that? Don't they usually have a dinner or ceremony for the inductees?

All 3 inductees should be there and I believe there is a dinner/ceremony.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Per DU Hockey Twitter: DU's exhibition game vs. Univ. of British Columbia on 10/6 will most likely be played at Pepsi Center.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

*smacks forehead* In my recent little exegesis on where we ate in Denver, I forgot to mention Pat and Lucy's. In the middle of the block on University, across the street from the Border. Home made soup and pies everyday. You'd go in there for lunch and the pie would still be warm from the oven. IIRC, Murray used the joint for pre-game meals one season. Specialty was a $3 fillet, with soup AND salad and potato. Nothing fancy, but the soup was home made and the pies were warm. Yummy. Had way more meals in Pat and Lucy's than anyplace.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Hmmmm. "Most likely" at Pepsi.......I wouldn't be surprised if they forego the Pepsi Center for the Denver Coliseum. That would be a nice dress rehearsal for the Coliseum staff who will be working the 'Cuts games.... and maybe a nice marketing op for them too (if the building is available, and if the 'Cuts are available)

PioneerVision has announced the fall schedule:
Oct. 19 and 20 UMass-Lowell and Air Force
Oct. 26 & 27 Michigan Tech
Nov. 2 and 3 St Cloud State
Nov. 9 & 10 Minnesota State @ Mankato
Nov. 16 & 17 Colorado College**
All are audio, not video--**hoping this means a TV telecast somewhere

Would think the exhibition would be broadcast???

According to Mike Chambers, Kyle Ostrow has signed with the Colorado Eagles.
Former DU captain Kyle Ostrow has signed with the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL, bringing the Canadian back to Colorado after playing his first year as a pro with the Chicago Express (ECHL) and Rochester Americans (AHL). Ostrow is an outstanding two-way player — with NHL-type wheels.

A week ago, the Eagles signed former DU co-captain and one-time NHLer Gabe Gauthier, who helpd the Pioneers win national titles in 2004 and 2005. In addition to the Ostrow announcement, the Eagles also said they have signed former Colorado College defenseman Arthur Bidwill.

Ostrow, DU’s captain in 2011-12, produced 31 points (11 goals) in 59 games with the Express last season, and played two games (zero points) with the Americans. He amassed 105 points (55 goals) in 158 career NCAA games. Ostrow’s younger brother, Shawn Ostrow, will be a senior for the Pioneers this season.

OK, it's August, it's time to ramp it up in the posting department. Let's get the whole gang out of hiding and start talking hockey. I'll get things started:

1- Who is going to be our leading scorer?
2- Who is going to be the Freshman who turns heads the most?
3- Will Makowski be back and be a total stud?
4- How will we deal with 3 top notch goalies?
5- Other?

Are you sure you want everyone to come out of hiding?

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

3 top notch goalies? In Denver? OK, so I'm being a wiseguy. I guess have concerns about one of them being considered top notch.
Over the past couple years, I'm really starting to enjoy seeing the Sophomores turn the corner and become bonafide producers. It's more prevalent when there's a big-name Senior who graduates and moves on.... it's like these kids coming back for their 2nd year have almost been given sub-concious permission to come out of their shells and start throwing their weight around, whereas in their Freshman year, they maybe were timid, and were intimidated by the upper classmen and learning all about the college game. So I say...... keep your eyes on Doremus, Mayfield, LaLeggia...... I think those 3 are going to explode.
