Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

It is with great sadness that I report that the DU family has lost a bright young member. Ted O'Leary has passed away, from what is only currently described as a domestic accident. My thoughts and condolences go out to his parents, brothers, sister, and the rest of his family.
Oh my gosh, that is so incredibly sad. Ted was such a great student, and the member of 2 NCAA title teams. In think he was one of the alternate captains on one of those teams, too. I remember him doing some productive work on the ice, but it was his great character that I will remember the most. It made me proud to have a guy like that represent the Pioneers on the ice.

He was an alternate captain his senior season which was '06, I'm pretty sure. Gwoz has rewarded those hardworking, lesser skilled guys who were good teammates with A's in the past, besides O'Leary, Mike Corbett and Nick Larson are two off the top of my head.

O'Leary's passing is pretty sad...so young and apparently so intelligent...he should have had a whole lot of quality life still ahead of him.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. A terrible loss for them and the DU community.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

My condolences to the O'Leary Family. Very sad to see someone so young and talented pass away.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Mike Chambers story on the late Ted O'Leary in Denver Post. According to Ted's parents, the cause of death is unknown. Ted was one of DU's finest student-athletes.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

I know San Jose traded him to Tampa Bay, but did he ever play for them, or was he traded to Philly during the same off-season?

He played 12 games with Tampa Bay before the trade to Philly.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

In kinda-sorta related news, I see the "the Cuts" announced their home opener date .....which is on the same night that DU hosts UML for ther regular season opener at Magness Arena. And yet another fish species, the Idaho Steelheads, will play the Colorado Eagles that same night up at BEC. One good thing for the Pios, Eagles & Cuts.....the Colorado Avalanche are off that night.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Ahhhh, gotcha'. I guess the Canadians consider it a bye week, since they are all exhibition games on the Colorado road trip. Thanks :)

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

We are under 3 months.

Today is July 9, 2012. There are 89 days until DU's next game.

October 6 exhibition game

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Quick question since BU is visiting you guys this year:

What section of your rink is the away section?

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

DU's Mount Rushmore up on the polls section.
I already voted so I can't vote for other. but I did have a few more thoughts.

Craig Patrick-2 time NCAA Champion, 2 time USA National team, Asst. Coach 1980 Miracle on Ice team. Stanley Cup winning GM. Part of hockey's royal family. Hockey Hall of Fame.
Jim Wiste-All American, NCAA Champion, AND owner of the Campus Lounge
Cliff Koroll-Team Captain, NCAA Champion, Successful NHL career with Chicago Blackhawks and by all reports one of Maggie's best friends.
Adam Berkhoel- backstopped DU to 1st Ncaa Championship in 35 years including the infamous last 2 minutes of 3 on 6.
Peter Mannino-NCAA Champion, 4 year goalie and ardent supporter of Denver Boone.
Jesse Martin-whose amazing recovery from a potentially fatal injury brought the DU/NCAA hockey community proud of an amazing young man. And remember he went on to graduate that same year.
Peter McNab- who was one of DU's first non-Canadian stars.
Wade "Dubie" Dubielwiscz-who should have won a NCAA Championship/ #1 seed forced to play at Yost
Connor James-who came back from a broken leg to play/win an NCAA Championship in 6 weeks.
Rhett Rakhshani-Team Captain, All American, who single handedly beat ST. Cloud State by scoring 3 goals in the last 6 minutes of the game--a "Rhett trick" is now part of the DU hockey vernacular. Linemate Tyler Ruegsegger, RnR, made one of the most unpronouncable twosomes in WCHA history. But wasn't it fun to listen to the announcers attempting it.
Glenn Anderson
-best known after DU--Team Canada, multiple Stanley Cups, Hockey Hall of Fame
The 1978 team which was obviously SCREWED by the NCAA
