Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Hats off to UNO for coming out making adjustments to their game plan last night. They came out hungry and DU came out serving cupcakes in the first. Belfour was impressive in his first start. He's got pads the size of Texas so beating him down low is impossible. Pios are showing signs of improvement. As Rycroft said before coach came on after the game last night. Giving up cupcakes like we did in the first aint going to get it done come April. Adam was not seeing the puck well last night at all. I think he would of been pulled if it wasn't for the injury. Interesting to hear that Beau got nailed in practice Thursday and was not anywhere near 100% Friday--he was better last night. If I where Gwoz (and I'm glad I'm not) I would come down hard on Zucker for his selfish play. The first thing I would go after is his nasty habit of staying on the ice too long. I say give him some time on the bench to get his attention. I liked the PP adjustments this weekend. We moved away from the perimeter approach and started some triangle down low--push it towards the net. I think over time we'll see better results with this more aggressive approach. 3 points in exam week against UNO is good when it is all said and done. No practice till Wednesday this week. Redhawks will be a tough opponent and they are on a roll. Good game to get us ready for the trip down to the cement toilet in the Springs.

I'm not sure what game you were watching. Zucker played his heart out this weekend. He was/is the most exciting kid out there. Beau has the talent and physical skills. What Beau can do with the puck is simply awesome! But when Zucker hits the ice, you just know it's going to be exciting. Zucker is hardly selfish, he just works hard to get to the net and is willing to do what it takes to pick up those dirty goals. Bench him? Ha! We need more kids just like him.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

I was at the Saturday game and have to say that I'd give Juho the starting role. Except for that first softie, he carried himself with a lot of confidence, even a bit of swagger, and looks like his reflexes are much faster than Murray's. I've just never had any confidence in Adam Murray. He doesn't ever look like he's really in the game to me, and seems overall slow. All that being said, I hope the kid gets well soon and proves me wrong. For now, I feel pretty confident with the Finn.

Bump and I know what you mean. I want so badly to like Murray, but he looks shaky to me. He coughs up huge rebounds and has trouble handling the puck. I haven't seen the Finn yet in action (he needs a nickname, "the Finnish Fence" or something). Anyway, I don't want to say anything negative about our goalie, but I have to wonder where we would be right now had Brittain not been injured.

Rhett with 2 assists in his 1st game back.

Not a bad start for the Rock. He is on Bridgeport's #1 line. BTW, former CCer Mike Testwuide had 3 assists for Adirondack in the game in which Bridgeport won 5-3.

Tough to tell where the players stand overall as this first report is by league and not by all North American skaters. Good to see both of these recruits listed.
I'd say that these rankings place the two players somewhere between the 4th and 7th rounds in the NHL Draft.

I know taking shots at one of the teams biggest talents isn't going to make me very popular on the boards. Actually, I never have been and I'm not going to start striving for that now. First off, I'd agree you BBM that he's most likely one of the most talented kid on the team (this is a big honor on team a as talented as the Pios are) The whole team was clutching their sticks while Beau was out. We played like crap against Tech and UMD. When Beau returned everyone seemed to relax and get back to their ability level accept for Jason. He continues to clutch his stick. I didn't say anything about his work ethic. I think this season he is not playing to his ability level. He is holding the puck too long and staying out on the ice much longer than he should. Last year, when he was taking stupid penalties (which he has a tendency to do) coach sat him down for a good part of a game. I think it was very effective in getting his attention. So far this season IMO Beau is smoking him in effectiveness. I think Jason can rebound but I think it will take some redirection from the coaching staff. He's showing signs of immaturity and I think Gwoz can help him. I know a lot of people will think I'm crazy for saying all this. I saw him be way more effective on the ice last year, versus what I've seen so far this year.

I am planning to head to Denver for the series against the Gophers. Is it worth my time to stay near campus or am I better off staying downtown off 16th? I have stayed downtwon once before in the summer and enjoyed it. I am not sure if it is near as fun in the winter. I appreciate the advice.

Since there aren't really any places walking distance from the arena anyway downtown is definitely the way to go. Then you can just take the light rail south from downtown and get off at the stop across the street from Magness.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Music to my ears. We were debating on whether or not to rent a car. If light rail can get me to the games that is just one more reason to use cabs for travel (and now light rail).

Thanks. Downtown it is.

I'd recommend looking at the Magnolia Hotel downtown--very reasonable rates, great rooms (esp. the suites), free wine and beer happy hour in a nice lounge every night, good breakfasts included, and only about a block or two from a major light rail station on 16th St. Check it out!
