All Things Denver XXXI

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

It surely is bad news for Great Brittain. But I must say that 6 to 8 month recovery period sounds a bit long to me. Back in the days of no anesthetic and walking to school uphill both ways, I deranged an MCL and a lateral miniscus and it didn't take anything like that amount of time for me to get back on my feet. They didn't have to crack my knee. But nowdays if that's necessary they use the scope, which is far less invasive and requires much less recovery time. It used to be that almost any serious knee injury meant the end or significant curtailment of a career, not any more. So I'm just wondering if we've got the recovery time wrong. 8 months would have him back in February.

According to Chambers, he may miss the entire season due to ACL tear. Of course, Chambers also says that Brittain injured the knee in the Final Five Championship Game against North Dakota (over/under 3 days until Chambers blames this on North Dakota?), and they were hoping that rest would fix the issue. Obviously it hasn't and they had to do the surgery.

It's a difficult situation for DU, but I'm sure Murray will step up and be great. Denver always seems to get great play out of that position. All the best to Brittain in his recovery, and hopefully he progresses quicker than expected. He was a lot of fun to watch last year.

An ACL injury is a very tough thing to rehab. Once the surgery is done, the ACL is essentially fixed, but everything around it is very tight. That means that extended rehab is needed to make sure everything loosens up around the ACL and muscle tissue doesn't die. If this is truly an ACL tear he may miss the entire season because this is something that a few weeks cannot fix unfortunately.

:p:D:D

I suppose Chambers could blame North Dakota for great passing/shooting that forced Brittain to move around quite a bit and make some great saves that caused the injury.

Moral of the Story: Don't try and do too much against North Dakota. When in nets, stay in place and stay safe...no need to risk an ACL/MCL tear. :p

In all seriousness though, Brittain has great potential and I hope he recovers and is able to play at the elite level that he showed last season.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

I just opened up our thread out of sheer boredom and what do I read??? Oh for the love of God!!! You have got to be kidding??? I hate to even ask this, but who is our third string goalie? And given the quality of most 3rd string goalies, how are we going to manage with just Murray as a top notch goalie? Will we have to go out there and get another high prospect? Who in the world would still be available? Ahhhhh!!!!!!

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

To me, this hurts Denver's chances of winning the league. Before this injury news they were the front runner for winning the MacNaughton, now I am not so sure.

Agreed. Before the injury (or before we knew about the injury) I would have put the top three at DU, CC, UMD, with Denver the strong favorite. At this point, I still think Denver is the front runner, but CC and UMD are much closer, and I wouldn't be surprised if any of those three win the league. Denver has always been able to get solid play out of their goaltenders, and I expect nothing different. Murray was not very consistent as a Freshman/Sophomore, but I expect that he should be a bit more consistent as an upperclassmen.

Whoever is in goal for the Metro State Pioneers will do just fine!

Guys, what about my 3rd string goalie question? Who is it?, can he cut it? And finally, up to a year of rehab?, I've never heard of such a thing!

Third string goalie has not been announced. My guess is DU will be possibly bringing in 2 walk-on goalies; one to be the back-up and one to be the 3rd stringer.

There is no year of rehab. Chambers is saying 6 to 8 months he will be unable to play. Conceivably he could be back by January at the earliest or late in the regular season at the latest. The one thing to keep in mind is that he has to be at 100% before coming back and for his sake erring on the cautious side is probably better. Sam is young as he came to DU a year before he was originally scheduled to arrive. He has a great future and rushing him back too early could cause a setback that would have him out even longer.

It is time to get behind Adam Murary as next year's starter. At 16 he was considered one of the top goalies in the world for his age group. DU won a huge recruiting war for him. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Colorado College were all vying for his services. I think he just needs to gain some confidence as he has the skills to be a solid college goalie. Hopefully, Derek Lalonde has him working out to sharpen his skills for this great opportunity to step into Sam's skates. He is an upperclassmen now and it will be his time to lead the Pios.

Turns out that a transfer is unlikely because even D-III players have to sit out a year. Compounding the problem is a lack of scholarship dollars available. Needless to say Killer & Derek will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

My prediction? Adam will be the major Pioneer "surprise" this year.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Looks like Brock Trotter is returning to the Montreal Canadiens . I don't speak French so if someone could translate.

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/321281.html

According to Google translator:

Dynamo Riga has terminated its agreement with forward Brock Trotter, the team reports in the KHL on its website Wednesday.

The club also says that Trotter has signed a contract with a Canadian organization with which he played from 2007 to 2010.

Last season, his first in the KHL, Trotter scored 9 goals and 17 assists in 49 games. He played two games in the National Hockey League in 2009-10, now minus-one-1.

Joined by RDS.ca, the Canadiens refused to confirm the news.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

I agree, he will be the Metro State Pioneer "surprise" of the year.

You remind me of the moron who keeps hitting his head on the wall--because it feels so good when he stops. Are we going to have an entire season of this? Or are you capable of coming up with at least one more adolescent meme to throw into the mix? Really, most of the other hebephrenic CC posters at least provide a little variety.

I was going to say the same thing, but DU's goaltending is consistently strong. It seems like every time their stud goalie graduates, some new kid comes in and totally dominates. Whoever their goaltending coach is (not sure which coach he is, because all their assistants are just listed as "assistant coach") must be some sort of evil genius.

His name is Derek Lalonde and he looks very much like Dr. Evil. I called him that one time in Duluth and he did not appear to be even slightly amused.

Well you know what the boys in the band would say...
