Working hard is one way good players get even better.

Just got back from completing my customary, holiday two-hour workout at Coors Fitness Center. One way of telling who's serious about staying in shape or getting in better shape is to have a look at the people in a gym on a holiday. The people in the gym studiously went about their routines and didn't engage in much talking between sets. People were there to go about their business and concentrate on lifting, stretching and doing cardio work. It's quite easy to slip into a gym and go unnoticed when people are working hard. Arriving perhaps fifteen minutes after me, but still working hard as I finished my workout, was Drew Shore.

Working hard and anonymously on a holiday is one way good players get even better.

Mayfield, N. Shore and Larraza made the top 100--#'s 28, 57, and 91.
http://www.thescoutingreport.org/tsr-2011-top-100-skaters-2650/

All 3 were invited to the NHL combine which begins today.

The comments on DU's recruits and current player were pretty interesting...there seemed to be a level of disappointment about Shore and Mayfield in regards to their respective production while still regarding them pretty highly...hopefully they fulfill their potential while at DU.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

I posted this in a comment on DG's blog, thought that I would paste it here, too:

It was a fun couple of weeks following the lacrosse program. It's starting to settle in that DU has another legit spectator sport besides hockey for students and alum to rally around. (No disrepect intended to our great skiing and gymnastics programs. But for various reasons, lacrosse seems better suited to the same kind of excitement that hockey generates.) We came up short in the final four, but just making it there was great for the lacrosse program and the school. I haven't seen many comments on the turnout at Crimson & Gold, but I can say firsthand that it was very impressive, to say the least. Packed to the gills with students, singing the fight song after every goal, people sporting the Boone "tattoos" that were handed out at the door, etc. It was pretty raucous at the start, and I can only imagine how it would have gotten if DU had a better result on the field.

Congrats to Kevin, it is well deserved for him to become an NHL coach. Must be the bloodlines. ;):)

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

The Hockey Twitter account, http://twitter.com/#!/DU_Hockey
reports four Alternate Captains named for next year.
>Drew Shore
>John Lee
>Paul Phillips
>Dusty Jackson

Dusty coming back is a pleasant surprise and he certainly has seniority. Lee and Drew Shore are not a surprise. At least to me, Phillips came out of the blue.

More big local hockey news - the EGulls are moving up to the ECHL:
http://www.coloradoeagles.com/news.php?nid=992
Very, very interesting. I'm sure they considered a move to the AHL and wonder what it was that steered them to the ECHL? Tough blow to the CHL to lose their most successful franchise.

It would seem to me that if they were the Avs AHL affilliate it would be a better situation.

Probably only a matter of time now before someone sticks an ECHL team in the Springs.

I doubt that will happen. It was already tried and it wasn't successful. It wasn't the ECHL, it was the WCHL and the team was the Gold Kings.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI - Paul Stastny Game Worn Jersey For Sale

Re: All Things Denver XXXI - Paul Stastny Game Worn Jersey For Sale

Up for sale is the game worn jersey of current Colorado Avalanche and former Denver University Pioneer stand-out #26 Paul Stastny. I got this jersey in trade and since I'm a Tech guy, I'm just going to offer it up for sale. This jersey is set two (2) from the 2009-10 season when he recorded his best season ever, netting 79 points. It is serial tagged as G01064 and Paul posted 15 points while wearing this jersey. The jersey has great wear with a reinforced team repair and displays the alternate captain's "A" on the left chest. It is CCM / Reebok 2.0 in size 56 and is marked "II" in the neck for the set number. The team LoA is included with the jersey. Other highlights from Paul's career include: WCHA All-Rookie Team (2005) WCHA Rookie of the Year (2005) NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team (2005) WCHA First All-Star Team (2006) NCAA West Second All-American Team (2006) NHL All-Rookie Team (2007). Click on the images for larger version in a new window. Price is $895 obo (shipped.) I am willing to listen to cash or trade offers for the jersey as well. Email me or just send a PM if interested.
