Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Now that DU's finally wrapped up the recruiting process, here's the scorecard. Having two fifth year seniors is going to be huge. Especially in the WCHA, where all the most talented players depart after just two seasons.

DU loses to graduation:

Jon Cook
Anthony Maiani
Jesse Martin
Chris Nutini
Kyle Ostrow
Josh Rosenholtz

Incoming Freshmen

D Scott Mayfield (Youngstown, USHL)
F Zac Larraza (U.S. Under-18)
D Joey LaLeggia (Penticton Vees, BCHL)
F Larkin Jacobson (Janesville Jets, NAHL)
D-F Wade Bennett (Wichita Falls, NAHL)
F Matt Tabrum (Omaha, USHL)
D Josiah Didier (Cedar Rapids, USHL)
F Daniel Doremus (Sioux Falls, USHL)
G Juho Olkinuora (Sioux Falls, USHL

Plus, two fifth year seniors:

Dusty Jackson
John Ryler

Is Doremus the kid who has a little brother we want, or did his older brother leave last year? If not, wasn't there a situation like that going on?, similar to the Schwartz bros. at CC?

Dmann- There are 4 websites you must add to your favorites, they are great sources of information. Let's Go Du Blog, Mike Chambers blog, Elite Prospects and Hockeydb.com. You need to check these in the morning when you get up and before you go to bed! The answer to your question might be about the Jones brothers or the Mermis Bros.

Now that the 2011 class is complete--here's a name to watch for 2013--Gabe Guertler (not Gauthier) :)

The Fargo Force announce today their selection of Gabe Guertler second overall
in the 2011 USHL Futures Draft. Guertler, a forward from Plantation, FL, played
for Team Illinois in the Tier 1 AAA League during the 2010-11 season scoring 25 goals and adding 34 assists for a total of 59 points in 35 games played. Out of 35 games played, 20 of them were multipoint
.http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=4187790

RPI fans were hoping Seth Appert's Florida connection might bring him to Troy until...
FYI... Guertler told a Fargo Force beat writer in late April that he narrowed his college choices to Denver, Miami, Michigan and Minnesota.

a short sample but Gabe Guertler who is by far the leading scorer in the U-16 camp is still uncommited according to Heisenberg, see Tier 1 2013 class (Team Ill.)....http://www.usahockey.com/Season/TopScorers.aspx?EventID=2699&AgeDivisionID=1938

Talking about the Jones brothers, here's an interesting article on Seth: http://www.thepostgame.com/features/201106/popeye-jones-son-rising-star-not-basketball

Noted Mr. Wiseguy!!! So who was the kid who bolted this past season? Weren't we psyched about his brother?

Interesting.

That is tough competition to recruit against. If DU comes out on top of that four-way battle it will really be saying something.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Exciting stuff. All the behind the scenes work that DU and UND have apparently been doing, is finally coming to light.

I'm excited about the new conference, and really hope that Notre Dame gets on board, too. I just worry that they view themselves more in the "eastern mold" of schools such as BC, BU, etc. The latest reports indicate that Notre Dame won't be making a decision anytime real soon, so there wil be plenty of time for hockey east and the new "super conference" to kiss a lot of Irish butt.

That last bit has me wondering if that's what we want to do. No question the ND "brand" would bring more name recognition to the conference, but sucking up to the Irish is hard for this Chicago WASP to swallow.

Buy yourself some Listerine and think of England.

If Notre Dame joins, NoDak will only be my second most hated team. LOL. :)

The Catholic high school in my home town has produced "only" one ND Heisman Trophy winner. So I come by my feelings honestly. I do recall when they came into the WCHA years ago, they were confident that that ND on the sweater would be sufficient. It wasn't. The Pioneers beat them like red-headed step children.IIRC we're something like 35-10 against them all time. Eventually they slunk off into the CCHA. Times change, of course, and as Nicholson said in "Hoffa" "I gotta do what I gotta do." So maybe we need 'em. But it's still hard to take. I'm gonna do what DG suggested and invest in Listerine futures. One of my most cherished memories was the time Northwestern (under Ara) laid about 45 on ND at Dyche Stadium. My old man and I were in the stands for that one, and we enjoyed it. . .a lot.
