Re: All Things Denver XXX

I'm a believer in a Big Blue miracle Thursday so I can watch them all give their overpriced tickets away for nothing as they cry going out the exits. It wouldn't be the first time the greenies folded in the Semis. I remember the thumping that the Eagles gave them at the Can.

we couldn't hear the crying of DU fans after the final five and the green bay regional because there was a total of about 5 pio fans for each event...:D

Re: All Things Denver XXX

The Leafs played Ottawa last night. Leafs won 4-2.
Good news: Bozak got a goal and Weircioch an assist.
Bad news: Weircioch will be playing for Binghamton this afternoon.

Kyle Ostrow wearing #19 for Portland.:) Didn't play last night.:(

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Rhett Rakhshani with a goal and 2 assists for Bridgeport against Binghamton last night in B'port's 4-3 win. Dono with an assist on Rhett's PP goal. Dono was 0-1-1, even on the night. Rhett was 1-2-3, +1. Dono is paired with veteran Mark Wotton in B'port.

Did you know there are as many players on the B'port roster from Sweden as from California and Oklahoma combined?:rolleyes:

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Chris Butler gave Buffalo an early lead midway through the first by finishing a 3-on-2 rush with his first goal in 15 months. Trailing the play, he took a cross-ice feed from Stafford and snapped the puck high past Ward from the right circle.

Been a long year for Chris.

Kyle Ostrow was 0-1-1 +1 in his debut for Portland yesterday. Portland lost 4-2 to the Connecticut Whale and Kyle was the only + player on Portland yesterday.

Anthony Maiani scored his first goal in his first game with Wheeling in their 4-3 win over Toledo. It was Wheeling's last regular season game and they are now headed to the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Playing in his first professional game, Anthony Maiani took advantage of a Walleye turnover in front of their own net. Maiani stole the puck at the top of the crease, deked twice to the forehand, and flipped the puck top shelf past Palmer for the go ahead goal to give Wheeling a 3-2 lead. The goal was the first of the career for the University of Denver standout player.

I am going to MSP with a fellow DU fan and two others.

So basically the entire DU fanbase?

Of course sitting in Tom Reid's Hockey Pub crying in my beer over DU's absence may be more cathartic than watching the Sue nation despoil the national anthem and run roughshod over all comers.

At least we don't scream and cheer during the entire song like Bears fans and a few other clubs. I've seen a microphone go dead on a young lady singing the anthem at REA only to have the entire arena pick it up and carry it to the end, if that's "despoiling" then I'm proud to take part.

And yada yada yada, is this the point in the game when you take your ball and go home?

So cool!!! What a life change these guys are going through!! Will either of them get a chance at the NHL as the season winds down?

As far as I know neither is under contract to an NHL team. I believe they signed ATOs directly with Portland and Wheeling, both of who will be playing in their respective league playoffs. Wheeling has to make a judgement rather quickly as to whether to put Anthony on their playoff roster.

Who is Wheeling's NHL club? and what is an "ATO?"

From the Toronto Sun

The Senators sent D Andre Benoit and D Patrick Wiercioch to their AHL affiliate in Binghamton on Sunday to suit up against the Albany River Rats. Both are expected to return in time to face the Flyers Tuesday night at home .

Re: All Things Denver XXX

ATO is an amateur tryout contract. Lots of clubs sign free agent college players to these at the end of the season to get a look at them and so they have no long term commitment to them after the season is over. That is the case with both Ostrow and Maiani. Matt Donovan is on an ATO with Bridgeport right now as his Islanders contract does not start until next season. That way the Islanders don't use up a year (the rest of this season) of his rookie entry level contract which would move him a year closer to free agency. The clock on his free agency starts next season rather than this season.

Wheeling is affiliated with Pittsburgh but can sign their own players that are not part of the Pittsburgh organization. From what I can tell Maiani is not property of Pittsburgh.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Former DU players on ECHL playoff rosters which were announced yesterday.

Anthony Maiani - Wheeling Nailers
Ryan Dingle - Victoria Salmon Kings
Geoff Paukovich - Las Vegas Wranglers

On the reserve rosters

Tyle Ruegsegger - Alaska Aces (currently in AHL with Abbotsford Heat)
TJ Fast - Cincinnati Cyclones (currently in AHL with Rochester Americans)
Tom May - Utah Grizzlies (doesn't appear to be injured and is not in the AHL)

Re: All Things Denver XXX

After 2 periods of play today in Bridgeport, the Sound Tigers lead Springfield 5-1. Rhett has a Rock Trick as he has scored the last 3 goals in a span of 1 minute 59 seconds. Dono not on the score sheet but has 2 shots on goal.

Live game sheet

Final Score: Bridgeport 6 Springfield 2

Rock 3-0-3, +3, 0 PIMs
Dono 0-0-0, -1, 2 PIMs

Rock's 3 goals in 1:59 was not the fastest in AHL history. From the AHL Guide and Record Book:

Fastest Three Consecutive Goals by One Player :57
Bill Jennings, Indianapolis - Feb. 16, 1941

Re: All Things Denver XXX

I wish I was more excited about the frozen four!!!

Think you should be excited for tUMD's Bulldogs. After all in 2004 the improbable DU team came back from a 2 goal deficit in the Frozen Four Semi-Final to send Duluth and their Hobey winner Junior Lessard back home and the gritty, DU team to its first Championship in 35 years. This is their first time since then to make the Frozen Four. They deserve a chance to hang their 1st NCAA banner.

Three reasons to cheer for tUMD.
1. Win it for the WCHA--beat Notre Dame(CCHA)
2. Keep Michigan from hanging a new banner--9 is bad enough
3. Keep the Sioux from getting an 8th banner and going ahead of DU. (I really don't want to hear about that from the fighting Sioux/fighting whatever fans next year.)

So get the vodka and OJ ready for the Frozen Four!
