Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

DU's newest recruit Joey Laleggia had two more big games on Tues. & Wed.

Joey LaLeggia continued his hot play with a goal and an assist much to the pleasure of the crowd of 1,342 fans who pass through the turnstiles on Wednesday. LaLeggia leads the Vees with seven goals, fifteen assists, and 22 points in 15 games.

The Penticton Vees have the best record in the BCHL.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Greetings my fellow Pioneer fan. My hiatus is just about over! Things have been busy and strange this year, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm hoping to resume attending the home Pioneer games beginning with the game the evening of November 13. In the mean time, go Pioneers! :)

Hope all is well 14ers! I think it has been a strange year all around. I'll be at the game tomorrow night! Look forward to seeing all of you!!!

As for the Pios, encouraging start to the season. Hopefully Murray can be consistent this season and the Pioneers can fill the holes left by Rhett and Tyler. 3 points on a weekend in a hostile environment is nothing to scoff at. Well done Pios!

Big test this weekend, I think it will be a split.

LET'S GO DENVER!!!

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Anyone have the lineups for tonight? oh and ....bump!!!
:( I don't like the new faces!!!

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Bacher will probably post the DU line-up on the DU website sometime today. Looks like Nick Shore (wrist fracture) and Dusty Jacskon (mono) are out and William Wrenn (hamstring) is questionable.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Who's our backup 4th line center?

Hard to say at this point. I would bet the "Danimal" Olezeweski will stay as the fourth line center, but with Jackson and Nick Shore both out of the lineup, I would imgaine Mermis would get to into the lineup and dress as a forward on the fourth line, and the other lines will shuffle, with Shawn Ostrow moving up. Maiani played some center last weekend in limited duty. Gwoz will figure it out.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

I think the plan tonight will be to see if Nick Shore can hold the stick with his specially fitted cast. Keep an eye open during warm-ups to see if he's out there.

The Denver Post has really been delivering the DU hockey coverage over the past two weeks. A photo journalist on Media Day, Terry Frei blurb, tons of Chambers' Blog postings, articles and features on DU players and the Gwoz Fan Mail Feature published today. I don't ever recall the coverage being THIS good.

You can't get this type of coverage unless the Sports Editor is "on board." KUDOS to the Post.

Ask any CC fan. Its liberating to come out of the closet. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Not a cloud in the sky here in Denver today, with temperatures getting into the 70s, it looks like a glorious fall homecoming weekend to begin the home portion of season #61 of Pioneer Hockey. Looking forward to being on campus during the best time of year, IMHO.

While spirits are high around here, DU people need to remember to take some persepctive into the BC series. I still think it's likely Denver is going get swept this weekend by a more skilled, deeper and more experienced top-ranked BC team. That said, this is an important learning weekend for the Pioneers, and will tell us alot about where DU stacks up at a national level. The Pios were better than expected against a competent Vermont team in a tough barn, but UVM is not BC.

Keys to success for DU:

1) Goaltending. Must be steady for DU to get a shot.

2) Contain the big guns: Atkinson, Whitney and Gibbons are as good a group of snipers as DU will see this year.

2) Smart play: If DU tries to get fancy or over-extend themselves, BC will make you pay.

3) Work rate: DU must move its collective feet and win battles to have a shot. Emotion needs to be there, but channeled.

4) Discipline: With the skill guys BC has on the PP, DU can't take as many penalties as they did against UVM on Friday.

I'm not going to disagree with Swami's likelihood of a sweep prognostication, but a Sweep would be a major accomplishment for BC. For a defending national champion to come off just one game's preparation, after a summer of being lauded by the fans, media and the school defies logic. To come into Magness at 4,000 ft. above sea level and humble our Pioneers on back to back nights would be an amazing feat.

Good luck to both teams. Hope DU comes out firing on all cylinders tonight.

Its actually 5,000+ feet. But we're not counting! ;)

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

According to the sign just outside the visitors locker room at Magness as you head towards the ice: "Welcome to 5,342 feet"

When the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.....Let it be, he's on a roll........

DU is very tough at home. The last time they were swept at Magness was on March 9/10, 2007 in the WCHA playoffs by Wisconsin. I see at least a split by DU.
