Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

It is WCHA awards day. DU should be bringing home lots of hardware this afternoon.

I would love to see DU face Cornell. They haven't played each other in a long time and if that is the Saturday game in Albany count me in.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

A quote from an article on DG's blog that caught my eye. I wonder if the writer likes Bennett just a little bit?

"This year's batch includes two players that will be heading to the University of Denver. Topping that group is California winger Beau Bennett, a speed demon who has been such a dominant force for Penticton in the British Columbia Hockey League that he basically has made a complete farce of the competition.

Leading the league with 41-79-120 scoring totals in 56 games, Bennett has catapulted himself into Red Line Report's first round. We certainly liked him back at the World Jr. A Challenge in November, but even we are surprised at just how quickly he has developed, and the improvements in his game over the past four months have been staggering."

Wow, that is a great showing by our Pioneers. Wiercioch is obviously a great talent, and he will be invaluable down the stretch run for DU. But I am somewhat surprised to see that he made the first team. He has put up some good numbers. But he was hurt part of the year, and there have been some comments from DU fans from time to time about the strength of his defensive game. Is anyone else mildly surprised that he made the first team?

Yes. I like Paddy's game, but I liked him more last year than this year. I think Paddy got a nice lift from a top team and a great season last year. I had him pegged for third team status, maybe second team.

All the other Pios seemed fully deserving to me.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Had to update Gwoz's Bio on the sidebar of the Blog.

Little surprised that Gwozdecky was named Coach of the Year since that award usually goes to the "most improved" team or "biggest surprise."

That being said, this is his fourth WCHA Coach of the Year Award. Its his 16th year at DU. He is no doubt a coaching legend.

Re: All things Denver XXVI: From Boonetown to Motown

Don't forget guys and gals that Paddy has been playing all season with an injured knee. Gwoz said way back when he first came back that it would be an issue all year but he could play with it. Gotta give him props for playing through it all season.

Great job by the DU boys!!!!!
