Re: All Things Denver XXIX

Well just finished digging out from storm #7 since the day after Christmas. This one started yeterday as snow with a little accumulation, changed to sleet and rain and then back to snow late last night. Between 11 PM and 4 AM we got 15 inches of snow which at one point was coming down at 5 inches per hour. This was supposed to be a 4 to 8 inch storm.

Hmm, maybe I don't blame Nabokov for not wanting to report :p:D:D

Up in Houghton they get 4 inches per night. Every night. All winter pretty much. it explains a lot I know.

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

OK, I guess I'll keep this thread limping along. Check out the various NCAA bracket scenarios for DU. At this point, if the season were to end right now, we would be in Manchester. Perfect!!!!!! (for me that is)

Scroll down a ways!!!

That Northeast Regional looks mighty fine for DU. Too bad there are thousands of permutations which will occur between now and the actual seedings!

Actually, I don't know whether we even want another #1 seed, considering how we have wasted the high seeds. (Even in 2005, we very nearly lost to Bemidji in the first round.) I hope this year's team peaks at the right time. I'm sure Gwoz is up late at night in the bat cave trying to figure this out.

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

Bye week internet tidbits for the terminally-bored DU fan:

1. Did you know the NCAA term "Student-Athlete" originated from DU court case in 1953? Check out the story, with DU reference in paragraph #3:

2. Did you know DU once offered aviation courses in the 1950s and even had its own airport in Aurora?

3: Tyler Ruegsegger likes it in Alaska:

4. Former DU skiing coach Knut Nystad has purchased a spiffy new shed. Life just doesn't get more exciting than that. This made my day.

5. JP Testwuide is back playing forward again....

I am sure he is doing just that. If DU can go deep in the NCAAs this year, he could be looking at a payday deal of $1-2 million or maybe more (depending on contract length, bonuses and perks) at DU or elsewhere (should he leave). Figure a base salary between 350,000-500,000, and the other stuff on top of that.

C'mon Gwoz. Do it for the $$$! Do it for us! Just do it! Take us back to the promised land. I would settle for a Frozen Four appearance this year. (Just in case anyone was wondering.)

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

North Dakota & Yale lose on Friday night.

DU now #2 in Pairwise all by their lonesome.

Apparently it pays to not play :p:D:D

If North Dakota wins tomorrow they'll take back the comparison with DU and slide DU from 2nd to 4th again. Of course they would likely take that comparison back next weekend if they can sweep while UND is idle.

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

Yep--Let's hope Seth's crew doesn't knock off the Bulldogs tomorrow night. I don't want the bulls eye on the backside that comes with the numero uno status. Dman-- I hope your Manchester scenerio comes true. Last year I flew out to Albany to watch the boys tank. This year I'm thinking of laying low for the regionals.

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

Worst case scenario after Saturday's games are that DU is in 2nd in the WCHA 1 point behind UND if they beat CC tonight. If UND ties CC, DU and UND are tied for 1st and a UND loss keeps DU in 1st by 1 point. Given all that DU will have 2 games in hand with UND being idle next weekend. Next week's CC series is important in that it could give DU some separation from UND. UMD who is also idle this week and has the same number of games left as DU also sits 1 point behind DU in 2nd. They face archrival Minnesota in Daloot next weekend. I know Gwoz says winning the MacNaughton isn't the teams' main goal, but right now they control their own destiny.

DU is in first place in the WCHA and the only games remaining are with WCHA teams. Bullseye firmly in place. :-)

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

Stastny picked by Team Staal for the NHL All Star Game. Besides Paul, there are three other ex-WCHA playesr playing in the All Star Game; Jonathon Toews, David Backes and Phil Kessel. For being picked last by Team Lidstrom, Kessel won a new car for himself and a $20,000 donation to be given to the charity of his choice. In addition, two of the rookies for the All Star Skill Competition played in the WCHA; Jamie McBain and Derek Stepan.

True that, DG. Went down to the WA to see the Sioux smoke the Tiger tonight. The Sioux were on fire--beat CC to the puck all night long. Joe Howe left the game early in the third with what looked a knee injury. That's the second shut out lose in row for CC when I've been in the house. Saw them get SO by UNO in December. Hoping for a hat trick Friday. DU has dropped only lost one game (UMD) since they get slammed down there. I think the boys are going to be ready to hand CC another thumping.

Re: All Things Denver XXIX

After completion of this weekend's games, DU is in 2nd place in the WCHA, 1 point behind UND with 2 games in hand. UMD is in 3rd 1 point behind DU and Wisconsin is in 4th, 3 points behind DU. Wisconsin has also played 2 more games than DU while UMD has played the same number of games. More importantly DU is tied for 2nd in the PWR with UND behind Yale who lost 2 games this weekend.
